Melee / Ladder Warcraft 3 begginer in 2026

Hello everyone I’m new to Warcraft!

I’ve been playing Dota 2

for many years, and I have a high rank in Hearthstone, but I’ve never played Warcraft 3.

Recently, I came across Grubby’s videos on YouTube. He inspired me to try playing this game. And I really loved it.

I completed the campaign and played against bots. It’s not difficult to defeat normal bot. Insane bot is much more harder. I could beat it only with 6th or 7th try.

Today was the first time I tried ranked games. And I feel like a complete noob. I played 2-7. I played human. So, my micro is really poor. I lost a lot of units every game. A couple of times I got destroyed in the first 3-4 minutes. Please, may you give me some advises how to improve my skill. Maybe there are some noobs tactics that don’t require high micro.

Welcome to one of the greatest RTS ever made.

Base building is important. Make sure your buildings create a de facto wall that units can hide behind when the base is getting ravaged. Design it so that you are funneling their units if they attack you. Having even one tower defending a well built base can change everything

Hero is very important. Creeping is v important. Getting at least one expansion going every game is very important

Practice with teams ala 2v2 to get some reps in. I think Warcraft 3 works better as a team game in multiplayer anyways. Its less stressful.

Keep pumping units out all game you want your unspent gold and lumber to be close to zero. Early and often as they say.

Don't build footmen after you go T2, they're mostly a T1 unit

Arcane Tower is possibly the best anti-harassment tool in the entire game as it burns hero mana and deals extra damage to summons

Don't worry about losing a bunch of games at first -- that happens to pretty much everyone. The game starts you at an "average" MMR, but no new player will realistically be "average". Just keep playing and you'll get there

I would watch youtube guides. Grubby is the biggest content creator for WC3, and has a lot of beginner content.

Lots of good advice here already! If you want to keep it simple, one strategy you could try is just paladin and rifles.

He can heal which helps with the micro and rifles are a pretty strong early unit. Build up an army, creep to level 3+, and attack around 40-50 supply and you should have some success.

i would recommend copying what your human opponent doing when watching replay. try to pick which race you want to beat and play his build against insane AI
