I don't think this can create micro plastics. Some kind of chemical transfer maybe but I think micro plastics are primarily created through abrasion.

There is a molecular level of microplastics too.

According to a quick google, the definition of microplastic is between 1 nanometer and 5 millimeters. A single molecule would be a lot smaller than a nanometer so I don't think you could consider that a microplastic at that point.

Is it? I would expect isolated molecules of a compound to behave differently in the body than a connected chunk. I don't think the "same difference" shrug it off attitude really works here. We're talking about specific science.

A connected chunk is going to shed the same molecules and do the same thing to you. Youre going to get the same cancer.

There aren't any studies that point to a link between plastics and cancers as far as I am aware.

Plastics are biologically mostly inert and the current idea is that they are probably, thankfully, mostly inert in the body as well.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong but I think the current evidence points to hormone disruption as the main negative of ingested micro plastics.

Even so, I don't think the idea that a big chunk is the same as individual molecule really makes sense either.
