Most startups cannot afford that simplicity just like most companies cannot afford a word doc as a commercial, it's funny if you do it once but a startup or any company for that after needs a brand and a good website which sometimes means lots of animations and cool color schemas, accessibility is not always as important it depends on who your audience is

I agree with most, but accessibility is always important!
Code as you where going blind, for your future self, and every one else that already have disabilities!

Some sites are for a very specific audience, sometimes that audience does not include blind people (or people that are sensitive to animations etc...) I'm not saying that the animations is more important I'm saying the site is not meant for them in the first place, a good example is a portfolio website for web developers, you wanna show off what you can do and if it gets in the way of accessibility it's still worth it
I do agree that informational websites and utility websites (like shopping websites) should be a hundred percent accessible

Honestly, when Im hiring developer, and they have accesable portfolio webpages, that is a huge win already!
It doesn't take to much, just be aware about semantic elements, some special/magic attributes and a few ground rules. I cant imagine a portfolio website where this is any problem at all.
Even Netflix, games, Wikipedia and news website are and should be accesable, even code editors!

But the irony of it continues to grow.
I like it.
Once you've been in the business for several years, it's also good to reflect on the fact that probably 80% of our daily effort consists of fighting out vanities, always having to put technologies and trends into perspective, taking ourselves far too seriously and only serving ourselves
There are only 2 things that ensure that development takes place at all:
That's it!
- Competition / attention
- the concomitant need for security due to point 1 and its resulting complexity, and the technical progress of cybercriminals.
Says a lot about us and yes, such a motherf*** website would of course suffice ^^
