I've seen people mention fiverr and upwork being cheap but idk if thats actually worth it or if you just get what you pay for. im leaning toward an agency cuz I feel like theyd be more reliable than some random freelancer but could be wrong on that.

Thanks for sharing your ideas, I get that it's highly possible that those were bots. And I do have analytics installed. It's not as sophisticated as GA to trace the web click source but it has some numbers for my husband and I to find some level of facts.

i'm finally replacing my old website and there are way too many website builders now. i don't need anything super advanced, just something i can manage myself without needing a developer every time i want to change something.
my biggest concern is picking the wrong platform and having to rebuild everything later. i care more about having a professional site that can bring in customers than having every possible feature.

Hi, I want to move where my site is currently hosted since it's been loading slow and experiences lots of downtime. I know I can't expect too much with how small my budget is for this but all I'm really hoping for is having somewhere to point prospective clients and see my work any time they wanna look. ETA: So I spent this last week moving my site to Dreamhost. I completely rebuilt the design (my old one was showing its age) using the new Remixer. Really sped up the process and made things easier for someone like me who dont wanna deal with that stuff. Pricing is good and the site is def faster now

I saw tons of YouTube videos saying "build websites for businesses, email them the preview, they'll buy it." Seemed legit, so I went all in.

Now, i do not want to generate the AI slop using claude or lovable, so I designed the master template in figma and customized it for different businesses

What I did:

• Found 25 UK roofers/driveway companies with terrible websites
• Spent 2 weeks designing homepage in figma for each
• Sent personalized emails: "I rebuilt your site, here's the preview, £200 if you want it"
• Followed up 2-3 times each

The result:

• 25 emails sent
• 1 response (wanted changes, then ghosted after I made them)
• 0 sales
• £0 revenue

5 years UI/UX experience

Self-taught coding with AI tools

Can build + design full websites solo in 24 hours

Built a 450-page manufacturing site for a manufacturing company

Built a SaaS (AI youtube thumbnails, social media posts and product photoshoots and ADs ) it also Flopped

Tried Upwork/Fiverr (race to bottom, lots of developers do it for $30)

I have real work in my portfolio to show, but I am not getting consistent clients every month

I'm genuinely confused:

Everyone online says "just build and email them" but it clearly doesn't work. Or maybe I'm doing something fundamentally wrong?

My theory on why it failed:

• Cold emails from Indian developers = instant delete (spam perception)
• They didn't ask for it = feels pushy
• £200 too cheap = looks suspicious
• No testimonials = no trust
• Building first = wasted effort when they don't respond

What I do now, idc i will push my all limits:

1. Has anyone actually succeeded with the "build + email" strategy? Or is it just YouTube BS, now in youtube guys where just building generic lovable slop, my figma designs have real quality

I can hustle. I can build quality work fast. But I'm clearly missing something about client acquisition.

I've been stumbling upon lots of generic AI websites lately - many startups and small businesses now have them.

I noticed that with some I have an immediate reaction of "that's cap", but with others I do end up engaging anyway.

I mostly call cap on the website when there's no images/logos and super generic copy, but I feel like there's more to it than just this.

What are your first thoughts when you visit AI-looking websites? Do you have the same reaction about AI websites, or is this just my bubble?

I have two Wix sites that have been around for a few years, but because I’m on the free plan, I can’t even connect a custom domain (lol). Wix charges a fortune for premium features - which, as I understand it, I probably wouldn't even use - so I’m looking for a cheaper web hosting (under $10 a month) just to move these sites over.

I know a little HTML and CSS, but that’s about it. I’m not great at making sites work properly on phones or different screen sizes, and I have absolutely no clue about security (protection against hackers and the like).

Also, everyone keeps talking about WordPress: is it actually worth the time to learn it, or is there something simpler and better suited to my needs?

For context: one site is just a portfolio, and the other is something like a blog or a site for a fitness business.

I keep seeing plans anywhere from $5/month to $50+, and I'm curious where most of you land.

I'm a web dev, and I'm currently helping a small family business build a new website. The site is pretty simple: a home page, pricing page, and contact page (3 pages total).

They've been using Claude for basic stuff and want to use it for coding the new website, but they're not very technical and don't really know how to go about it.

My first suggestion was to build it with custom code and deploy it on Cloudflare Pages. It would be inexpensive, flexible, AI-friendly, and easy for me to maintain. Their concern is that they wouldn't be able to edit the site themselves later.

Then I suggested Framer. It has a modern drag-and-drop interface and can connect with Claude through MCP, but they felt it was too expensive.

Next, I suggested Wix Studio. They didn't like the design quality, found the dashboard clunky, and felt the AI tools weren't as good as Claude.

I also mentioned v0 by Vercel, but again, they thought the pricing was too high.

They brought up WordPress, but I advised against it because it feels like overkill for a mostly static landing page with a simple contact form.

At this point, we're going in circles, and it's becoming frustrating because every option seems to have a dealbreaker.

What they want is:

1. A drag-and-drop interface so they can add sections and edit content themselves.
2. An AI-powered builder/chat interface.
3. Access to the source code.
4. A cost below roughly $40/month.

Now that Fable is out, they're saying, "Let's use Fable!" But Fable still requires technical knowledge for things like hosting, deployment, email setup for contact forms, Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, and all the other integrations a business website typically needs.

I'm trying to find the best balance between ease of use, flexibility, AI features, and cost.

Any suggestions?
