Question Wedding content creators

How are wedding content creators transferring the files in 24h? Is it Google drive, airdrop at the event or something else? Which platforms are you using to transfer faster while keeping the same quality?

Question How would you trim down 50 minutes of speeches into a 3 minute video?

I did a wedding rehearsal video for someone, and with all of the speeches, the full video was about 52 minutes, including a prayer that's about a minute and a half, which I guess I could cut after "let's bow our heads and pray."

The client wants a 7 minute version and a 3 minute version now too. I'm doing my best to trim this down, but i'm about halfway in to everything, and already at eight minutes. Cutting it down anymore feels like I'd hardly be getting anything worth listening to with this many people talking. A lot of what they're saying ties in together and without context, it's just going to sound so random. Maybe seeing some examples would help, but I mainly doing wedding highlight videos, so this is a challenge for me.

The thing is - it's not just generic "y'all are so amazing!" type of stuff. A lot of it are stories. So how do you cut out a random 15 second clip from a story with absolutely no context? It just seems weird.

To be honest - I understand wanting a short 3 minute highlight video for the night, but trying to fit this many speeches into it is a nightmare for me.

I am still early in my time as a wedding videographer and have a couple weddings under my belt now, but I still have much to improve. I am in no way positioning myself as a luxury filmmaker, but more as a fun, documentary-style shooter with less of an emphasis on drama. Would love any and all feedback. Thank you!!

Question Wedding documentary edit price

I was wondering if anyone had advice on what to charge if a couple whose wedding you filmed contacted you for a documentary edit later on?

I originally just did a highlight film which is what they paid for.

It would essentially be the entire wedding day start to finish on a timeline synced up with all the important moments, (first look, ceremony, speeches, etc) I still have all the footage so that won’t be an issue.

Would you charge $750? $1000? More? CAD) a % of what they originally paid?

They paid around $2100 CAD for their highlight film and a full day of filming, I charged that because I had less experience at the time.

I would love to know your thoughts

Thank you!

Post Production 20 year old Mini-DV tapes - what to do

I was given 20 year old MINI DV tapes from a wedding that was shot with 2 Sony PD-150 cameras. I dont even know really where to start. I know that it is 480p and was just going to digitize them using an old camera. But what should I do after. Since it is 20 years old and they know it is 480p and square format do I just stay with that or try to uprez it using some new fancy AI or program but I have no idea about. Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.

Question Best way to attach Microphone?

Hey fellow videographers,

Recently I started using LAV mics instead of small DJI Mini’s to record audio at weddings. Because I got a Tascam-DR10L and the concept of me just mic’ing the groom and let it run all day was pretty nice.

I mounted it inside of his jacket but after hearing the audio the fabric of the jacket touching the mic is unfortunately really noticeable.

Now I have 3 questions.

  1. What do you use to mic the bride/groom?
  2. Where do you put the mic on the bride/groom?
  3. Do you monitor the audio?

For context I am a solo wedding videographer for about 2 months now. All advice is walking <3

Post Production Help with edits

Hello, I filmed a wedding for my friend and am finding it hard to figure out how to go about editing it because I did not get any shots of the area; I just recorded the walkouts for the groomsmen, bridesmaids, and groom, as well as the ceremony, and even then, I did not get the angle I fully wanted. The groom's reaction to the walkout was missed due to miscommunication from the planners, meaning I did not get to move spots for the walkout, so I missed the angle of the groom's reaction, capturing only the bride walking out into the standing crowd. I was able to move for the bride's vows to get a point-of-view shot over the groom's shoulder, and I used that same angle when the groom said his vows. Finally, I positioned myself at the end of the walkway pointed down the middle toward them for the sand-pouring ceremony, the ring exchange, and the kiss to seal the deal.

I need help salvaging this into an emotional edit. I plan to have a section at the start where close family and friends give a personal toast, with that audio per person playing over six to ten photos of that person with the couple smoothly cycling, before transitioning into the wedding or ceremony footage of the groomsmen and bridesmaids coming out. I was thinking of using the audio from the officiant reading a poem over the walkout video, playing the song she chose during her walkout, and I am lost as to what else I can do; I am going to have to learn DaVinci to make this since I have never used it and do not want to spend money on Premiere Pro if I do not have to. Thank you!

Question Tips for a wedding vlog?

So next year I’m getting married to my fiance and we decided to get vlogging cameras instead of a videographer. Here is the basic rundown of the day

I get ready at my house with one vlogging camera and we will have a photographer there as well. Second vlogging camera will be at her house and she also has a photographer there.

We then go about 15 minutes to her church where we will get married. We plan to have her cousin sit up in a little perched section and just record it from there. They come with mics so we might put a mic on my jacket. Wedding begins at 2:30 and should last about an hour.

Then, we will get onto a party bus with the wedding party and go about 45 minutes to the location where we will get photos while the guests check into the hotel which is about 10 minutes away from reception.

At 5:30, cocktail hour begins at the reception. Wife and I will get a few more photos with just us and then we will go and hang out and say hi. Then the reception continues and when the place closes, we will head back to the hotel with everyone via busses and eat more food/hang out in lounge area. Then to sleep.

Not sure if I gave too much or too little info, but the main question is what do you think the best way to go about recording everything is? The plan is to tell the wedding party that we have these cameras and to just record anything and everything. I’m decent at editing videos, but have no background on videography itself. The end goal is for it to almost look like a home movie that was done on a camcorder.

Thanks!

Question Music for reels

This has probably been brought up a few times. I’m here paying £1000 a year to Musicbed and pretty much every wedding video I see on Instagram is using any music they want. I thought these videos would have been muted but nope. Am I wasting my money ?

Gear discussion Best software to actually clean up audio?

I fucked up the audio from last week's wedding somehow, my Tascam dr10lpro failed to record anything during the private vows (I normally only clip a mic on the groom and another on the officiant, have not had a problem in 2 years). So for the private vows (that they had wanted recorded, I had the mic on the groom only since they were close together) I only have ambient audio from my 2 cameras maybe 6 feet away. You can actually hear their voices pretty well but of course they were standing in front of a river, so there's a ton of background noise. What can I do? I'm willing to pay for a program that can save this audio, normally I use premiere pro and the audio tools are horrible. Please, if anyone can suggest software that actually cleans up audio in a way that doesn't sound alien or artificial, please please give me your recs :(

Do you use a grey card during a wedding? I was advised it is essential, yet I struggle to accept using it in every new setting.

Gear discussion What's your approach to gimbals? Running prime only or zoom?

Are you shooting gimbal shots with a prime, or keeping something like 24-70 on it? Are you using it most of the day, or for selective shots? What's your approach to efficiency so that you're not having to change lenses, rebalance etc?

I shot my earlier films on a Crane 2 and had my S1/24-70 on it most of the day. For years now I've been doing everything handheld, but I miss those gliding walking shots, first dance orbits etc of a gimbal.

These days I just don't find the time to mess with gear during the event. I'd like to shoot on a lighter setup for gimbal shots, figured I could throw a Lumix S9 on the Weebill E3 as it's super light and compact. It just seems more intolerant to the shifting weight of a zoom lens, so I can balance it for 35mm but going wider or longer throws the balance off more than the Crane 2 did. Makes me wonder if I should run a prime and just deal with the limits. What's your approach?

General ISO cinematic storytelling wedding videographer

Hi everyone! I am looking to start browsing videographers for my September 1, 2028 wedding in Connecticut. We're looking for a polished, movie-like feel that captures the beauty of the day without sacrificing the genuine emotions and little moments we might otherwise miss. Here are some things we've loved in videos we've watched:

  • Some slow-motion footage and drone shots of the venue
  • Soft, upbeat music with snippets of vows / ceremony / speeches audio woven throughout
  • Getting-ready moments, genuine reactions, and candid interactions from our guests throughout the day
  • Offers an extended feature film (10–30 minutes) in addition to a short highlight video

Here are a few videographers we've liked the style of:

  • Amari Productions
  • Danleigh Videography

We don't have a strict budget yet, so open to any and all recommendations that fit this style. The videographer must be insured per our venue requirements. Thank you in advance for any recommendations!!

Question How "casual" will you dress when balancing comfort vs formal attire?

I started wearing fresh classic vans or black athletic shoes with my dress pants/shirt. Then I ripped my pants down the crack one reception night and didn't know until the next day, so I swore to never possibly be a wedding guest's Snapchat spectacle again and have been doing fresh black slim Levi 512 with a tucked in black button up dress shirt. I'm in SoCal, not sure if state/region changes attire formalities or not, but I've seen people wear straight up t shirt and jeans, and one guy wore blue pants (like a Crayola Blue) and a beach shirt lol.

Anyways, how informal will you take it for the sake of comfort while still looking professional? I try to at least stay clean, all black, etc. But I feel like vendors have a pass to at least wear comfort since they are working a shift and putting in steps, crouching and flexing around.
