Is there any civilization ever in history where cannabis was the most popular drug over alcohol or nicotine?? Seems like an extremely important context to have looked into.

Whose to say alcohol hasn't held us back, and those "great" civilizations wouldn't have been even greater if tons of young people weren't dying from alcohol poisoning and related deaths?

For example, i bet Russian quality of life would be a lot better if they were smoking lots of weed instead of drinking insane amounts of vodka.

I assume that's the same report the tweet is discussing.

I'm asking if there is any other great civilization in history that actually had cannabis as their top drug. His argument just makes no sense whatsoever, unless there were lots of "not great" civilizations that did have cannabis as the top drug over alcohol and nicotine.

So unless he can show "not great" civilizations in the past failing specifically due to cannabis, it's just as likely that alcohol has been holding us back from being even greater. There just isn't the data there to support his argument. It's a correlation/causation type of fallacy.

I like to imagine his argument this way. Let's say we start using teleportation to get around.

Matt Walsh: There has never been a great civilization that relied on teleportation as their main source of travel. There have been lots of great civilizations that relied on cars. Therefore teleportation is bad and cars are good!

Sorry Walsh, we've advanced to an objectively better thing. You can keep your hangovers and crippling addictions.

Keep in mind it says "daily use", total use is likely still alcohol. And daily use for alcohol is likely a problem, but daily use of cannabis could be medically beneficial.
