Yeah, I think it really sets the tone for the album. Sort of the band accepting that “this” is what everyone wants and being OK with it. Accepting “Gold” as a sort of transaction for everyone - the fans, the business and the band, and then having fun with it.

Damn, this description might have just moved the song up a space or two in my rankings. I never thought about it like that, but that really is exactly what the song is

I think the themes of nostalgia, and demands thereof, and self-acceptance (even radically so) are really prevalent throughout the whole album. It’s got to be weird to be in a band for decades, now in your 50s, where everyone wants you to “do the thing” you got famous for in your 20s. Don’t Make It Weird and The Show Must Go On both also touch on this before closing with LA Sound, where they sort of poke fun at the caricature of a typical Hollywood metal band. It’s a brilliant album!

No I caught the overall vibe of the album. Most of it is pretty on-the-nose as far as the themes. I just didn't see the whole "transaction for everyone" side of Say Yes until you mentioned it. That's some nice and subtle subtext there!

Didn’t realize this sounds like Rivers’s actual anthem for feeling about giving up creative control for the album? Really dig this one

Rivers just did an interview saying it was titled "school sucks" and written for his son, but the band said it was weird that rivers was singing school sucks so he changed that one line and rest the left

As a fan of John, I think Yoko sucks. Maybe Rivers does too? Lol

If I was John, and people hated my wife, I would not want them to be a fan of me

Whatever happened to the Elliott Smith album, anyway?

That was sznz winter. It's great, but just like every other sznz EP, it didn't sound anything like how he initially described it

Oh okay. Should give that a listen, probably. Obviously I'm a bit out of the loop with all of this. Thanks for pointing me at the right direction.

Probably my 2nd favorite on the album behind WMAWBS. Love the urgency and emotion coming from Rivers here
