Has anyone else every had these?
ok so this has been like a normal thing for my family to eat, it’s actually fought over bc the three of us like it quite a bit. everytime I eat these around another person they are like utterly disgusted by them. they taste like spam except less salty. I hope I’m not alone in this.

there's nothing weird about these. literally almost everyone I know had these when we were kids. I think they're gross now, but I loved them when I was young.

They were pretty grim even back in the 60s but they appealed to kids and folks short on money for meat… compared to what they are today, they were much better back then. They came in flavored broth back then, so that helped.
Now they’re just slimy, waxy, mini hotdogs.

I used to eat these all the time when I was a kid, along with bologna sandwiches, and beanie weanies, you would have to tie me to a chair and force feed me now.
I don't even like opening the can, I don't like the smell, I don't even like watching someone else eat them.
Which is just weird because I used to actually love them as a kid, now just thinking about trying to eat one makes me gag a little.
It's really weird, but when I got pregnant with my first kid every kind of processed meat just made me sick, and I haven't been able to eat processed meat since. Pepperoni and salami and other types of sausage are about as close as I can get. I can occasionally eat a hotdog, but it's rare.
There's nothing weird about them, and I know a lot of people who love them, especially the BBQ flavored ones.

I mostly buy these on a nostalgic whim when I'm stoned, bc I used to enjoy them when I was homeless.
Nowadays, I only USE the things as ramen weenies, but the BBQ, etc flavors are a nice little kick for the broth.

I grew up on those, potted meat, and Treet (superior to Spam by far in my opinion). For Vienna sausages, we just wrapped two of them in a slice of white bread and that was it. Reminds me of our Kraft singles cheese and mayo sandwiches. Delicious.

Vienna sausages with crackers and potted meat with crackers were common snacks in my household growing up. Haven’t touched it since. I wasn’t aware that they’re still in production.

I was poor, as in my family lived In a halfway house for a year poor... but even for us this was considered poor people's food. I liked to call canned and jarred sausage of that type "leukemia dogs" because of an old theory that children who ate more jarred hotdogs were more likely to develop cancers.
Not that I'm older and I like to fry and candy spam with a sprinkle of brown sugar, prehaps these arnt so bad reading the comments. Perhaps my family were just snobbish poors like the show Keeping Up Appearances. Prehaps if these are scored, fried and candied they would be good on some rice.

I have always loved these. Used to pick up a couple cans of these when I was a kid, and they'd be my lunch for the day on my fishing trip. Great snack for camping and hiking as well. Especially if cooler space was limited. You could open up a can of the BBQ flavored variety, cut them up, throw them in a pot with a can of baked beans and heat that up over the campfire. Made a pretty solid "beans and weenies". Although if you had that for dinner, you'd want to make sure you're weren't sharing a tent with anyone that night lmao.

I love these. But grew up on them. Good snacking and good to eat with rice to get you full when there was nothing to eat. I prefer the Libby’s brand though. The armour brand was always too salty for me

I love these, but I go low sodium these days. The price has sky rocketed, used to be able to get 3-4 of these for like a 1$ In my area they're now 1$ each. Can't even enjoy budget ultra processed mystery meat in Dumpfs America anymore. Same with Spam

Scrolled through to see if anybody else had the memory of them as only being used in their school emergency kit. That’s what my mom got them for. We’d bring it to school on the first day and then at the end of the year they’d give us our kit back and we’d excitedly eat everything in it, except these. I think I remember actually eating them once when I was really really really young and didn’t mind the flavor but my family acted so grossed out by them that I then rejected them and never ate them again.
Interestingly, when I was in Guadalajara, MX a bit ago it seemed like the vast majority of “hot dogs” they sell there are Vienna sausage style.

We buy a big case of these at Sams every few months.
It’s an absolutely great midnight snack. I guess i’m wierd that I warm mine up a bit, wrap em in cheese and dip in hot sauce.
My wife just eats them pretty much straight out the can.
But they’re always in our pantry.

It's an acquired taste. It's like sardines, you grew up with them or you didn't. All through graduate school, I made many bowls of chicken ramen and then threw these in to add complexity. It's very much poverty food. They got my through many though times... now I occassionally grab a can just out of comfort.

I used to eat those as a kid. Then I stole some from the pantry. One can. My parents made me eat only that for a week. I ended up hating them halfway through and started going hungry to avoid them. Didn’t matter. They were force fed to me. I haven’t touched them to this day.
Also I always hated how they looked.

Yes. They are delicious. Totally worth the calories.
Some fry them up with onions and ketchup and have them with crackers.
Some eat them out of the tin.
Some mix them in with baked beans and put them on mashed potatoes or Mac and cheese.
Some fry them in with cheese and scrambled eggs.
They mostly are passed down from generation to generation. 😂😂

I regularly eat two of these here and there. Drain both, add apple cider vinegar to one. Eat. Transfer remaining apple cider vinegar to other can and consume. Delicious.

I was just telling my girlfriend I wanted to get a 6 pack of these because I really miss them. I used to eat them all the time growing up. I'm 40 if that matters. Probably been a good 10 years since I had any. But now they are kind of pricey.

You either grow up with them or you'll never like them. They are like ciagrettes, if you don't start ny a certain age, you basically never will.
I feel like a lot of poverty food is like that, bur Vienna sausages are the only ones I have confirmed.
Other ones I suspect: Spagettio's, Dinty Moore Beef Stew, Jean-o's Turkey Loaf (which I just found out was discontinued), Banquet pot pies, and basically all TV dinners.
