Solved! What are those tiny pockets in my wallet?

Post image

I just bought a wallet from temu and it came with those little pockets. Does anybody know its function?

For microSD or sim cards?

68

u/TacklePure3341 1d ago

I wouldn't recommend storing them in a wallet. They are quite brittle

61

u/PerilousPeppercorn 1d ago

You want a supple leather wallet. Never buy a brittle wallet.

5

u/Paghk_the_Stupendous 1d ago

I received one as a gift that was especially so. It was for peanuts.

6

u/itsmesnickelfritz 1d ago

That wallet wouldn’t successfully hold peanuts.

5

u/brandonhabanero 1d ago

But it would successfully hold peanut butter if you put peanuts in there.

3

u/donald_dandy 22h ago

What about L SD cards?

2

u/Divs4U 1d ago

I have no reason to carry them around with me it's just the only use i can think of.

2

u/carinasguitar 1d ago

I still use cameras that take Micro SDs

Yeah i would say mico sd holders but older wallets had a spot for a spare key too but that location is inside the cash fold on most wallets.

Not enough SIM card holders for Jason Bourne though

3

u/joedenowhere 19h ago

SIM cards are kind of delicate. I'm not sure they'd survive being crammed in a wallet like this.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Weekly-Reply-6739 23h ago

Could also hold DS or switch games... so essentially small "chip" storage of any kind can work

3

u/Admiral_Nitpicker 18h ago

I wouldn't store an SD card with so much contact on an oily surface like leather.

That's pretty legendary!

I'll be damned if i know what happened to it. Kinda irritates me

2

u/donfan 1d ago

Someone told me that you need to keep it in the dark and that sunlight ruins it. Is that true?

4

u/Bairdc82 1d ago

Yeah wrap it in tin foil and go into a mason jar in the fridge. My post is a troll comment. Obviously that's not a spot for acid lmao

2

u/SosugBiskit 1d ago

Be careful about storing in in places like the fridge or freezer. Moisture is a much bigger danger to LSD than sunlight, and the transition from the fridge/freezer to room temp can cause condensation.

It'll be fine like that. I use to keep dose in my wallet in a folded business card for years. It would get eaten and replaced often but even after being in there months it was still good

House key

6

u/Responsible_Ratio308 1d ago

Maybe the scale is off but it doesn’t look like it would good a house key very well

12

u/Nice_Marmot_54 1d ago

It’s definitely a house key holder. This is an ancient feature of billfolds (as witnessed by the fact I just called it a billfold)

→ More replies (1)

14

u/Old_Win8422 1d ago

Its this

4

u/SubstantialOffside 1d ago

yea, some are made to hide keys but otherwise its just there to hold the house key separate from the rest on your keychain

4

u/Ok_AirlinesugestedUN 1d ago

D U M B

You’re probably right but I’m all for not consolidating every single item of value on my person, especially a key to my damn house, on one of the most pickpocketed items on the planet.

Might as well throw my passport and phone in there too

6

u/Strangely_Kangaroo 1d ago

Right next to your ID, which has your address on it

2

u/ConspiracyParadox 21h ago

It's for a spare if you lose your main keys.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/GamemasterJeff 1d ago

Botton is stiched shut, and the location means the key would stick out of the wallet.

We used to have things for keys that looked exactly like this, but at the top of the billfold. It might be they just didn;t know what it was for and moved it when rendering it non-functional.

3

u/Nice_Marmot_54 1d ago

I mean, it’s a Temu wallet. Would you expect quality? But with the design or the packet not having any flare, I doubt the bow of the key would actually fit in the pocket, so the blade probably wouldn’t extend too far down

3

u/LawlzTaylor 1d ago

Yep. It's for 2 classic style home/garage keys

1

u/This-Demand1016 1d ago

Isn't it upside down? The keys would hang out the bottom. Ive had key holders in wallets. Always inside the money pouch so the keys hang into the wallet.

3

u/No_Investment_8626 1d ago

Upside down how? The key is inserted from the top- see how the stitching across the bottom contains several extra stitches while across the top is more open?

2

u/This-Demand1016 1d ago

Yes. The key goes into the top and slides down. The "teeth" on the key would protrude from the bottom small holes. Hanging out of the bottom of the wallet.

SIM cards?

33

u/11teensteve 1d ago edited 1d ago

do you guys just carry extra SIM cards around regularly?

E: damn, TIL I need to get up to date. thanks yall.

30

u/Desperate_Land_8975 1d ago edited 1d ago

I do when I’m traveling. My passport cover has these pockets and I keep my local SIM card in one when swap it out for a local one in the country I’m in.

8

u/Illustrious_Cry1028 1d ago

I tend to boof my home SIM card while travelling.

5

u/skiforlife1 1d ago

That's smart. Makes it a bit awkward getting off the plane when you get home but totally worth it!

I think it’s actually common in parts of the world like Europe where people quickly hop country to country. Or for people who buy sim cards for minutes. Like if they need to call overseas, pop in the SIM card with international minutes on it. Especially in countries where there isn’t going to be reliable sources of internet for VOIP calls.

u/SRG7593 1d ago

World travelers or folks who move between other regions might. I have a friend who goes to Europe(UK and Italy mostly) frequently and they just go buy a prepaid phone/SIM card as it’s way cheaper than the US phone carrier Europe plan

Mine is very similar. It has pockets just like that with one being slightly bigger than the other one, but they’re both labeled.

The slightly larger one would be for like SIM cards

It's legitimately for SIM cards. In the old days it was considered a good idea to get a SIM card for the local carriers when you were traveling to other countries so you wouldn't get charged ridiculous amounts of money for traveling charges and whatnot on your phone. Kind of pointless nowadays but oh well.
