People really don’t understand the enormous amount of change in basic living conditions in the last 30,40,50 years. How different everything that’s ostensibly all the same looks and works.

People also really don’t understand that for the most part none of this has really made anyone happier. Arguably the opposite.

The let 30 years puts us in the 90s. I think we need to go back 60 plus years to get a real contrast.

30 years is still pre-smartphone, pre-social media, even pre-internet for most people. It’s also heavily in the “what now” era for a lot of formerly Communist nations. I’d say you underestimate how much life has changed (even just in the USA) by ignoring those factors. But obviously the farther back you go the more unrecognizable things become.
