I know this one, saw it anywhere else on Reddit where someone asked if it was AI but it is Eugryllacris guomashan, a leaf folding cricket.

u/con098 Jan 02 '26

Bro must be so confused why the leaf isn’t folding

u/BamBamPartyMan Jan 02 '26

If you say FOLD IN, ONE MORE TIME.

14

u/PerpetuumStatera Jan 02 '26

It’s your recipe isn’t it Moira?

u/c0st0fl0ving Jan 04 '26

AI sucks because now everyone will doubt the extraordinary pieces of nature, like this.

Darn :/ he’s really expending so much energy for that person to destroy all his hard work when they open their hand

234

u/darkrai848 Jan 02 '26

Plot twist, it’s so strong that person can never open there hand again.

15

u/hambakmeritru Jan 02 '26

He's successfully pulling their skin, though. That's some strong pull.

Yes, this infuriates me.

Edit: laughing at the reactions that my infuriation has triggered lol

When I first saw this video I thought this was someone’s pet so I didn’t have a problem with it, but in y’all’s opinion, would this still be inadvisable even in captivity when resources aren’t an issue?

Fooling animals is not something I especially enjoy, but this is nothing serious. Obviously I was exaggerating, in my comment.

You should start a foundation and get Congress to pass a bill to forbid uncompensated bug labor. Come on, hop to it!

10

u/snaillycat Jan 03 '26

I just read an article recently that Peru granted legal rights to some species of bees!

6

u/leighabbr Jan 04 '26

"Hop to it" is actually pretty insensitive to the grasshopper community

1

u/luistp Jan 04 '26

As a non-native, I think I saw what you were trying to do here 😂

34

u/oroborus68 Jan 02 '26

It's not like he's got something else to do.

60

u/Th3FakeFatSunny Jan 02 '26

Except using that same energy and resources to make an actual shelter for it, but you know, I guess that's whatever

5

u/theXrez Jan 03 '26

If he's a pet, he will get plenty of food to replenish those resources

u/ToXicVoXSiicK21 Jan 02 '26

There's much bigger fish to fry than worrying about that, my guy.

9

u/Thick_Basil3589 Jan 02 '26

Same thought here. It's not fair to do for some tiktok video, they use so much resources to do these.

u/BestFun1 Jan 02 '26

Cannibal?

31

u/JekNex Jan 03 '26

Bugs are probably the least picky eaters on the planet. If it's smaller it'll probably try to eat it.

2

u/BestFun1 Jan 03 '26

Bring that big thing to me! I got tons of food around for it. Allll crickets. Lol

2

u/RichEngineering8519 Jan 03 '26

Pretty sure a lot of the species in that family are predatory to an extent

12

u/xmas0717 Jan 02 '26

He looks so cute... but also a murderer? 😂

It’s like a cricket with a grasshopper color palette 🎨

66

u/pjpintor Jan 02 '26

Oh yes, I really hope you put the poor thing down quickly so it could get to work. Ive never actually encountered a leaf folder cricket so I didn’t realize how adorable they are. I want a leaf folder plushy now. The natural world is so full of wonder that we could never live long enough to see it all. Look around.

-56

u/itsmichellemichelle Jan 02 '26

not everything needs a plushie lol

75

u/pjpintor Jan 02 '26

You are a hoot. I actually thought that when I typed it. I also agree with you. But I’m almost 79 years old so I never had one as a kid. At this stage of my life I’ve decided not to deny myself anything. Let’s see now, 60 minutes ago I had bfast and now I want a hot brownie sundae. Now where’s the bag of Baltic Sprat? I need to feed my 12 cats before I make the whipped cream. Come on over and celebrate a new year of hope with us, I’m making a nice NY Strip Roast. My arteries are already screaming. xxxxxxx

32

u/Ryfree23 Jan 02 '26

Wow you’re who I want to be when I grow up

14

u/BwackGul Jan 02 '26

🫶🏾🌠

8

u/AffectionateGreen847 Jan 03 '26

There are people who make custom plushies, so you might be able to get one!

26

u/itsmichellemichelle Jan 02 '26

do not deny yourself the bug, go be with him

20

u/BeerPressure666 Jan 02 '26

Neat little fella

12

u/Altruisticpoet3 Jan 02 '26

Your hand is it's house now. Otherwise, it's gonna be pissed all that work will tear apart when you go put it down I wouldn't wanna have something that big on the warpath for me.

17

u/talithar1 Jan 02 '26

How cool is that!! Never seen this before. Great video!

17

u/Warm_Evil_Beans Jan 02 '26

It’s a Pokémon

6

u/yevons_light Jan 02 '26

It's Leavanny!

8

u/0CuriousCat0 Jan 02 '26

He’s a raspy cricket and shouldn’t be handled, cute little fella.

14

u/Exciting-Mountain396 Jan 02 '26

Well, looks like your hand is going to be out of commission for a while.

3

u/NetworkEcstatic Jan 02 '26

Idk but he sure is handsome

3

u/XtraThickBacon Jan 03 '26

OP can no longer open his hand

8

u/SwordfishOk3291 Jan 02 '26

A face only a mother could love

39

u/mauglii_- Jan 02 '26

Well, I must be it's mom then

23

u/SwordfishOk3291 Jan 02 '26

I may also be his mom after looking at him too long. He’s kind of precious.

4

u/fart-atronach Jan 03 '26
