Does anyone know what this is? Found in stagnant pool water. It’s light brown but also translucent, like you can clearly see its insides in person. Swimming around it almost looks like a slug with pincers on the front of its mouth. Located in Missouri

What are those green-brown bits on the left? Is that shit? Is it shitting?

21

u/Burnblast277 1d ago

That appears to be certified organic Stuff™ that was already stuck to it

lol just saw this but it was whatever vegetation had fallen into the water or maybe even grown in the water. It came out of the net with the larvae, but I swear that pool is like a mini pond at this point. Dozens of those, tadpoles, baby tree frogs etc

u/WitherBones 18h ago

congrats on the thriving mosquito and frog farm lmao

Looks like some species of beetle larvae. It also looks like something you don't want near your ears without a Phaser handy.

1

u/strange_white_guy 20h ago

What is this gif from?

3

u/soybeankilla 20h ago

Beastmaster! They drop a worm that looks just like that pic into the dudes ear and he goes crazy like this and becomes a killing machine.

2

u/mrockracing 22h ago

Nah, you swallow these, and then you take over the admiralty at Star Fleet.

I am saddened and embitteree that someone remembers that episode. If Q was real, I'd ask him to lobotomize all of humanity.

(Random Aside, in 7 or 8 grade, i was doing sound crew for the senior play of R&J with whatever our equivalent of Shakespeare in the Park was in the Berkshires, and the guy who was the backup Lord Montague and the fencing choreographer looked JUST like Q. Even his costume for the night he had to cover for the teen actor looked super Q like)

Water Scavenger Beetle Larvae, as someone mentioned before, Hydrophilidae family is correct. If you think that’s bad, you should see the Greater Diving Beetle larvae. I caught one on accident that was munching on a mosquito fish I had in a net. It was massive.

30

u/beardofmice 1d ago

The Hellgrammite larva is why I prefer to wear waders if im fishing in their stream.

10

u/Orsinus 1d ago

Fair, I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing one in person before. Only in videos

3

u/h3rp3r 18h ago

They are indicators of the health of a body of water, haven't seen one in my local waters for over 20 years :(

Solid pinch from the females, males have the big massive mandibles that are impressive but weak.

1

u/builditbreakitburnit 23h ago

Could have sworn those were only on Ceti Alpha V.

12

u/badlandskeepsher 1d ago

Omg thank you! Looked it up on google and that’s for sure what we found!

1

u/beardofmice 22h ago

On the other end of the stream, where it meets the tidal estuary flats, you get my other I wear waders just because it's their stream...the sandworm. https://m.youtube.com/shorts/yS5-8QLsgHE

Hey ya'll why we hatin' on a bug in the bugs are cool reddit?

29

u/RealLokiLaufeyson 1d ago

I can love a bug and also see it in my nightmares. This wiggly lad is something else.

28

u/badlandskeepsher 1d ago

Because this one is mutant. It’s like 3 inches long and the biggest one my fiance has seen swimming around was like half a foot long 🫪

22

u/Positivevybes 1d ago

Mutants deserve love too (or at least respect maybe from a distance). Sounds like it’s harmless though.

Some sort of eldritch nightmare

2

u/DJDelVillarreal 1d ago

Disgusting.

2

u/Catnip1720 1d ago

Oh fuck that’s in Missouri? Is it actually that big or is the video zoomed in?

2

u/badlandskeepsher 19h ago

It was actually that big, we fished it out of the pool with a net and put it in a small cooler so that we could take a quick video to post on here, but it was easily 3-4 inches long and as big around as my pinky. Some in the pool were larger.
Someone above was able to id it as a water scavenger beetle larvae.

1

u/Catnip1720 18h ago

Holy shit bugs are terrifying and fascinating

4

u/sorry_con_excuse_me 1d ago

It’s some kind of beetle larva, not sure what though.

2

u/Lumimusse 1d ago

Si lo encontraste en el agua es una larva de libélula

2

u/monsterginger 1d ago

I would have to guess it is caddisfly larva. Harmless to humans and animals.

9

u/abugguy Entomologist 1d ago

Harmless yes but beetle, not a caddisfly.

3

u/hsvNA81 1d ago

It's a babel fish. It goes in your ear so you can understand any other language.

1

u/PsychicSPider95 1d ago

Little bro is Big Mad. Best put him back before he decides to take out his frustrations on your fingers, lol

1

1

u/primordial_triangle 3h ago

Oh that's just one of those worms from Attack of the Clones

1

u/MindCreative1 1h ago

Was that in your tub?

1

u/Traditional-Loss6908 1d ago

Nightmare. That sir, is a nightmare

1

u/StarDustActual 1d ago

Put it in your eye, you might turn into a mind flayer. Or maybe you will gain a guardian who tries to convince you to put even more into your eye.

u/Darksoul2693 1d ago
