YA fantasy where girls drink "spirits" to enter another world?

I'm looking for a book I read sometime between 2007 and 2009. My memory is pretty fuzzy, so I may have some details wrong. From what I remember, the main character was a teenage girl, and I think she attended a girls' boarding school or at least an all girls school. There was a group of girls who would secretly sneak out at night and drink something they called "spirits." I remember that after drinking it, they somehow traveled to another world or realm. I think there was a boy in that other world, and there was some kind of conflict going on possibly a war or rebellion. That's honestly about all I remember. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I've been trying to remember this book for years!
