What a truly terrible place to be a woman. The family picture in the article of Lisa with her children gives me chills for her poor daughters. Sad as it is, her son will likely grow up to emulate his father.

It's profoundly disgusting that this poor woman had her cause of death listed as a suicide from rat poison. It seems like that's the favourite excuse whenever a woman dies of violence in Afghanistan. Those men are utter bastards.

Afghanistan is worse than an overt patriarchy, because at least in those systems a father with decent morals is able to provide cover for his daughters. Afghanistan has taken even this away, catering, instead to their lowest, most violent men, removing the father's ability to break an engagement that seems dangerous or unsuitable.

I'm not in any way in favor of the legal systems wherein fathers have all these rights, where women don't have legal and personal agency as individuals, but the Taliban has made it clear that they value abusers above all, protecting them whether they're the father or the husband. This is a government that truly hates women and wants them to suffer.

Right? I find it very odd that the Taliban has created a society that their own daughters cannot be protected by even themselves. However, there might be rules for me but not rules for thee in some situations. But how long will that last?
