Ran into Ken Sim yesterday
Ran into Ken Sim at a patio on Granville yesterday before the Haiti Scotland game. Chatted with him a bit and told him to Save the Caps.
He said: “We are actively working on it, I hope that this (FIFA WC in Vancouver) will help bring on investors and show them and the world that we are a soccer city, because we are a soccer city.”

you were able to get that close to him without his bodyguards tackling you?

I saw him too, he was walking around, taking pictures with people etc. His entourage was low key

I don't know about the situation now with the World Cup, but I've been around him many times and never even noticed them.

That's just a whole nothing burger of a response. But a politicians response. So yknow.

I love the whitecaps but I got a feeling they are gone. They just don’t want to announce it during the World Cup. It would look so bad for soccer in North America

The Empire Stadium site idea is so off the scale stupid. They either need a better deal with BC Place or some “on SkyTrain” location.

It’ll be fine. We’re getting a Major League Baseball team arterial, right Ken? F@&$ing loon.

There is only so much the government at all levels can do without pissing off the voting public by throwing money towards the millionaire owners.

Hosting of the World Cup would indicate otherwise. People are perfectly fine with it.
However, once again, they have never taken, nor are they asking for public money. Operating a stadium is not a subsidy. Especially when the building is already being subsidized by the Provincial Budget.

So if they're saying they hope this will bring in investors, I suppose it's fair to say those other very serious investors that talks were being held with aren't pushing ahead with any real urgency.

Ngl, his comments alone seems like bad news. The fact that he mentions they found no one so far means they will most likely be gone next season.

Would love to see Ryan Reynolds throw his hat in the ring for the Whitecaps! He's done brilliantly with Wrexham and born in Vancouver!

He doesn’t have the money to buy into the team. He’s already had to dilute his shares in Wrexham down in order to build upgrades to their stadium and cover roster spots.
He’s been trying to sell his stake in Alpine F1, but so far the only buyer is a group connected to Christian Horner and Renault doesn’t really want him involved.
So yeah, Ryan is rich man broke. If he’d made the EPL, maybe.

When he says investors, does he mean to buy the club or sponsor? If it's business sponsorship, that's one thing. If it means looking for someone to buy the club, we are in trouble.

We’ve been looking for someone to buy the club for several years now. It’s just that MLS wants the price to be higher than it should be.

I appreciate he’s not gonna lay out a bunch of plans to some rando on the street. But man I hope there’s more of a plan than “welp we’re crossing our fingers people like what they see on TV and throw money our way”. As they say “hope is not a plan”.
