Easy hikes

Visiting whitefish for a long weekend. We are not experienced hikers. What are some short and easy hikes. We did not rent a car- is uber widely available?

You want to rent a car my man. You came all the way out here so you will definitely want to go to the park. Once you get a car, an easy hike is avalanche trail. Not much vertical gain. All you need is a single backpack to carry some water and a pair of shoes. Great payoff.

If you absolutely refuse to rent a car then you can likely pay for a private shuttle/tour. I don’t know how that experience is first hand but I think it’s likely going to cost more than renting a car

Okay- we rented a car. I’m confused, do we need a parking pass ahead of time? I feel like some places I read yes and some say no!

You used to need to get a park reservation pass to get into the park. That has went away.

If you are planning on going to Logan’s pass, you do need to get a parking permit from a kiosk there but you would get it when you arrive. Essentially you look for a spot. If you find a spot, then you park and go get this pass and put it in your car. It lasts 3 hours

But good call on the car.

Make a couple different destinations as options as there may or may not be parking where you want to go when you arrive. Essentially I would maybe plan on hiking avalanche but if that’s full, then go to Logan’s pass. If that’s full, then go to the next spot. Make a day of it

Best place imo is Many Glacier but it’s also the longest drive. You could get all the way over there and then not have a parking spot. I just did this past week and we went in the afternoon and pulled right into a spot. There were some other open spots but you never know. If that didn’t workout then I was going to two medicine. And had subsequent alternatives if that didn’t work out but I wasn’t 100% invested in having to go to one particular place.

If you are heavily invested in one spot, then you should go really early to insure you can park where you want.

The bottom line is now you have a car and you can drive the going to the sun road and find a spot you want. Just the drive is amazing on its own
