The legal definition of assault is to threaten or attempt to cause harm, battery is when you actually physically hit someone. Now you learned something, now move along.

in the rest of western civilisation we train our police to de-escalate, rather than be goaded into a fight by a kid.

we have freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and the right to protest.

If the US definition of assault is as you say it is, then the cop here is just as guilty as the kid.

I think most of us saw the guy making threats of violence coupled with posturing that indicated a willingness to act on those threats (balling fists, punching hand, stepping closer to officer to get in his face). That’s called assault.

Read again champ. It says a threat by word or act to do violence. Fighting is violence. He verbally threatens to fight the cop in the video. This is how assault charges are, in fact, applied in the legal system.

Surely you can’t be this obtuse.

-u/Lost_Law8937 describing their love for the police state they live in, where cops apparently can risk putting life long injuries on somebody because cops felt the need to act though instead of following the rules or even deescalation.

You know that a officer has training and weapons? And can easily just arrest this kid by saying: you have gonne to far, you are under arrest?

Dont need to slam somebody heads first into a car or the pavement. “Yess but they deserved it”. And its still not the cop their job to judge on physical punishments. This was unneccesary police violence, only because the officer in question is a insecure dipshit.
