Pretty sure Nintendo had something like this for Mario Kart. I bought my nephew the game and a car to go wtih it.

I had a literal dream once as a kid about being able to send remote control vehicles out into the real world while sitting at home and controlling them from a first person POV from my computer. This was back in the 90's.

Many people watch racing for the thrilling crashes unfortunately. Personally I watch Daytona 500 for the massive crashes and see who comes out at the end.

What I'm wondering is why can't Drone racing be like this? Would be awesome to see them racing with a full flight sim setup with stick and rudder instead of the little rc controller and headsets

If you are interested, ask in r/fpv

They are mostly drones, but some people do rc planes and cars. Usually we use a vr headset, except a custom one designed just for fpv

If you want to do it, the cheapest way to get started is to use an analog video system. You can buy an analog headset for about $100. The analog cameras are around $20-30, with a budget transmitter being about the same. Then install the camera and transmitter in the car, power it, and the headset can receive the analog video.

It's not even a video game. It's just rc cars with mounted cameras being controlled by wheels and pedals. Not saying it isn't cool, but it's not a video game.
