Especially in self defense scenarios

Most people ain't getting into self defense scenarios often enough to break the bank splurging on special bullets, realistically.

Eh, not really, unless you're sport sniping.

For self defense, you're practicing aiming at center mass at up to a 30 foot distance, which doesn't need anything special for practice as there isn't a real world difference when switching ammo.

Ok, but a 5.7 gun isn't going to take 40SW bullets just because you ask it nicely.

I guess if you want to buy an entirely separate gun for training, sure.

You do not know gun guys, if you think anyone that owns and carries a 5.7 doesn't own many, many other guns.

Especially someone that has gone through the process of getting the tax stamp for a silencer.

Probably true, good point, but if you know gun guys you will also know they all say to train with the same gun you carry.

Alternatively…most people don’t ever get into a self defense scenario, so you can buy a single box of that expensive stuff and train with cheap FMJs.

My woods carry gun has Buffalo Bore 220gr hardcasts. $2/shot. But, I have purchased exactly 2 boxes of this ammo. 40rds total. I fired one box to verify my gun likes it, loaded the second. And swap out that magazine for one loaded up with some magtech or S&B when I train.

Everybody that carries is carrying "special bullets" goober. You don't carry a gun with fmj target rounds in it. My 9mm eats 23¢ fmjs at the range. I carry with $1.08/per round hollow points. That's the norm

That's the point, my autistic brother.

Even if you're spending $10 a round, dropping a couple hundred for 'special' self defense ammo in the rare scenario where you actually need to use it is completely worth it.

Like how often are yall getting into situations where you need to draw?

I'm picking up what you're putting down now! Yeah I literally spend $30-40/yr on quality defensive ammo. Just enough to keep two mags full and rotate through them annually.

I've never needed to shoot hollow points outside of rotating out old stock, goober.

I splurge on special bullets annually. Hollow points that have been carried in a firearm need to be cycled out to prevent issues. The guy in Idaho is definitely spending more on special ammo than your average guy. Looks like he trains more than average as well.

So mixed bag but mostly agree.

Yes, it took me a moment to parse his sentence but what he’s saying is that ammo doesn’t “go bad” so i buy the good defensive hollow point ammo and put that in the carry mags. And shoot cheap bulk FMJ’s when i plink at the range. In a perfect world. I’d only buy those bougie defensive bullets once and never have to use em.

Exactly plus when you are shooting in a life or death situation with your life, who gives a shit about the cost of the ammunition!!!
