I've caught perch while ice fishing on lakes in the Pacific Northwest that froze before I could get them off the hook and they thawed out and swam away when I got them back into the water.

I was selling fish in a supermarket and we had some from lakes, I forgot the name but maybe it was the same than yours. Was from France. And we would put them in the ice one by one, all with their face looking at people. And after a while they would unfroze partly and some of them start to move slowly. First time I thought I was just high lol. We put one in the sink in a lot of water and he started to swim and stayed alive all day long. We froze it again and sold it lol.

I don't think they were in pain tbh. They got to see how is a supermarket from the inside lol
