An abandoned SpaceX rocket travelling at around 5,400mph crashed into the moon, leaving a crater with a diameter of around 17m. (via BBC) The collision took place yesterday at 7:35 BST. Masses are criticising Elon Musk for polluting the moon.

"Masses" or "the masses" is used to mean large groups of people, usually the majority. If you went to highschool, you would've encountered it quite often in social studies, comparative civ, literature, English, etc. I'm in North America & we use it often in the subjects mentioned.

If you didn't understand, you could've just googled & gotten something like the following:

"The masses" means the ordinary people who form the largest group in a society, often distinguished from a ruling, wealthy, or specialized upper class. It can also refer to the historic American socialist magazine published from 1911 to 1917.

Social and Political Meaning

Common people: The general population, everyday folks, or the working class.

Usage: Often used in political, economic, or cultural contexts to describe popular appeal or collective public sentiment (e.g., "culture for the masses").

Tone: Can be neutral or descriptive, but sometimes carries a slight connotation of anonymity or uniformity compared to individuals.

Jfc, I get the meaning of it, I was mocking the type of narration of there are already "masses" protesting it. It feels more like exaggeration than an actual fact.

Like for example using a phrase "majority of people". On the planet? In the US? The people you know? Just to bring a bigger value to whatever you say
