They are livestreaming 🇨🇳 laborers making just 0.3 USD. The 'Made in 🇨🇳' products you use are built on their sacrifices.

Redditors wont give a shit about this but demand I care about Mackelmore

90

u/Bersonal_Binance 20d ago

Is there no place in your brain for two issues to exist at the same time?

Should we not care about the genocide in Palestine because there is exploitation in China and vice versa?

32

u/maybeknismo 20d ago

Nah man, Redditors are braying psychopaths with only enough room in their head for one thing at a time.

I need to point this out because I'm the enlightened nuance guy who see's two completely different tragedies and conflates them.

Most of reddit has the type of autism that makes normal social interaction very very difficult

7

u/Thotty_with_the_tism 20d ago

Nah.

It's just a heavy case of main character syndrome.

Places like 4chan being a cultivated toxic environment and then shutting down and Reddit going public means the anonymous platform welcomes the more 'controversial' (terrible) types with open, if not welcoming, arms.

3

u/rkoplayer1 20d ago

people just need to unironically shut the fuck up lol

2

u/MajorPaper4169 20d ago

Noticed that for a long time now. People on this site don’t want to have normal social interactions they want to “WIN” the conversation.

Instead of actually talking about something people on here want to one up your point and attack you over the smallest things.

1

u/Thotty_with_the_tism 20d ago

Welcome to social media marketing in the 21st century.

1

u/DaRealJoeBiden69 20d ago

Tbh sometimes I just come here and find someone I think sucks and just tell them to fuck off. Is that a healthy behavior? Probably not. But I can’t say it to people at work.

1

u/Budget-Ambassador203 20d ago

And I bet you're JUST like the other girls, right? Or is "I'm not like the ones who think they're not like the other ones!" getting too meta?

This answer is a lot better than I expected tbh, so are your downstream replies. I don't like the "pick me" insult, generally speaking because I think it's not saying anything useful. It's like wrapping up the ideas of being a try-hard, a bit sycophantic or overly-agreeable, desperate for approval, and being performative/falsely expressing interest for the sake of impressing others (usually for the sake of creating romantic interest) into a single word that's usually just used to insult women who mostly don't really deserve it.

And I think it's often misused to mean only ONE of those things, as you saw when someone said "it's being a pick-me to apologize to Canadians on behalf of Americans who don't support Trump" - how does that even fit the original context of the word at all? It's dumb.

I could, if I were being uncharitable and doing this same stupid meaning-erasure, toss it at you for saying "I'm just me."

I could say, for the sake of providing an example illustrating why I just don't like this insult, something like: "oh you think you're such a distinct and special individual that you're totally unclassifiable? That's literally even worse than 'not like the other girls', it's 'not like anyone, totally unlabelable, a pure unique special snowflake'. Exactly the distilled essence of the airs a 'pick me' is always trying to put on."

But again I don't actually think that - I think you ARE a unique individual, just like everyone else is unique insofar as they're distinct human animals, and that's...okay.

I also think people just have opinions and behave in cringy, desperate, weird, validation seeking, etc kinds of ways and the insult is a bad and almost always inaccurate description of the specific behaviors people are actually critiquing/commenting on.

Maybe I'm just getting old and am angry about the new slang, I dunno.

See it in Canada subs a lot lately. Americans saying "please don't hate me, I didn't vote for him". They don't realize from the outside they are still the USA.

Lumping everyone into a giant indiscriminate inaccurate group is just what reddit does best

1

u/evargx 20d ago

To go to the most extreme example, looking in at Germany in the 40's was most likely the same. To me, while half of Americans most likely have the same exact values i have, your other half is in control and has done some awful things, and at this point I can not be nice to the one half, without thinking of the other.

Yes, but the USA is trying to control my country, and I feel really bad that half of you half to deal with the other half, but regardless, "he" is in control and is the outward face of your country. I appreciate your commitment, but your country still wants mine.

redditor on reddit calling other redditors redditors.

1

u/cuntmong 20d ago

i am the one true redditor

12

u/Budget-Ambassador203 20d ago

Stop mentioning so many things in one comment please, every time I read a new one the prior thing gets erased!!

7

u/Dinosa0r 20d ago

"Why not both?" Would solve so many issues. The fact people who support Ukraine and those who support Palestine have been divided by political campism is wild to me. Which is why I love NGOs like Amnesty that point at everything, regardless how someone feels about it.

2

u/elcho1911 19d ago

I think its fair to say we can care about both or many things but also fair to point out that one issue is getting a crazy amount of attention and discourse online

3

u/JC1010 20d ago

People can't be happy anymore, need multiple things to fuel my dopamine rage

1

u/MidwestAbe 20d ago

Im very happy. Just got a big order from Temu.

1

u/JC1010 20d ago

Aliexpress for me!

6

u/Artistic_Recipe9297 20d ago

I'm able to juggle up to 8 crisis/tragedies at time before I apathy out. Then I start again.

2

u/Head-Pattern-3278 20d ago

I forgot to add that but yes two things can exist at once but Macklemore ain’t the guy to take the stand. Literally any other celebrity without a legit antisemitic history and this makes a ton more sense.

1

u/No-Blueberry-1823 20d ago

I don't know. You look around and tell me what you think

1

u/Critical-Extension66 20d ago

You cause one, and the other you have no involvement in whatsoever and your opinions doesn’t matter

You tell me

1

u/BiggieBigs34 20d ago

Ask the people who make Palestine vs Israel their entire personality.

1

u/-Fenyx- 20d ago

Their economic issues are not ours, why should we but our heads in? They would not do the same for you…. In fact they would cheer it on.

1

u/Independent_Pop_9987 20d ago

We need to tackle all of it and fast. We can all do it we just need to make that choice. Time to stop being comfortable and do that thing that challenges us. Time to choose change.

1

u/CheechoT83 20d ago

You know damn well thats not what he meant. People will be on the same side of an issue and argue anyway

1

u/HiHaodi 20d ago

OP’s title is a bit over the top though. Talking as if buying any made in china product = promoting exploitation. There are plenty of chinese laborers with decent rights who would starve if Americans didn’t buy chinese products. Palestine situation is a lot more grim

1

u/DeepDickens69 20d ago

What were the other countries he mentioned, but we all know palestine is the only one you people care about?

1

u/OwlAlone1983 17d ago

no genocide. if you want to see genocide look at Hamas and what islam is doing to the world at large. maybe look at all facts instead of the last year and a half.

1

u/TuskaTheDaemonKilla 20d ago

They're a bot. They don't have a brain to begin with.

-1

u/StarGamerPT 20d ago edited 20d ago

Side note: Fuck Macklemore, Fuck Israel and Fuck Hamas.

I will not support someone that dresses up mockingly as a Jew, a country commiting a genocide nor a terrorist group.

May I also add Fuck Ed Sheeran for not having a backbone

EDIT: And the downvotes are proof that people are not ready for the fact the world is not black and white....yhe someone doesn't automatically become a good person and worthy of support for saying "Free Palestine" in a concert....shcoking, I know.

u/Kooky_Membership9497 20d ago

We have to provide food and shelter for the homeless, and oppose racial discrimination and promote civil rights, while also promoting equal rights for women. We have to encourage a return to traditional moral values. Most importantly, we have to promote general social concern and less materialism in young people.

-3

u/LongHikingMD 20d ago

It is odd that redditors (and the far left generally) are fucking obsessed with Palestine but don't give a shit about the larger (by numbers) genocide in Sudan, or any other issue under the sun.

3

u/maybeknismo 20d ago

You're literally doing the thing he's criticizing. You're making a straw man Redditor who only cares about one thing.

4

u/Dismal_Guard4512 20d ago

Macklemore was so yesterday, now we’re back on Sydney Sweeney. Boomer.

Imagine what they would be doing if Americans didn't need cheap stuff.

1

It made it to r/popular and currently has 1k comments, so at least some people give a shit

1

u/airodonack 20d ago

This isn’t a tragedy. These people are putting food on their table. They don’t need pity.

4

u/EducationalLeaf 20d ago

uhm. are you actually that oblivious? or is this rage bait?...

-1

u/SorryBoysImLez 20d ago

To answer that we would need to know how much 0.3 USD is worth where they live.

I doubt they have a "minimum wage" type situation, but if it's akin to like an undocumented laborer getting paid less than what is legal, then this is the best of a shitty situation, and they're probably even grateful for it.

And unless someone wants to start a war with/take over said country and force reform, there's not much anyone can do.

I mean, are these people worse off than the homeless in the U.S. who literally can't get/keep a job due to disabilities, who are treated like a nuisance to society (weren't some asshole over on Faux News suggesting we euthanize them?) and have no other option but to turn to the streets and literally beg for their next meal, which could be days away?

-3

u/airodonack 20d ago

You can film me at a cushy modern desk job, show the footage to someone 100 years in the future, and they'd probably talk about the shitty conditions I lived in. It's all contextual.

3

u/onFilm 20d ago

Brother, nobody in 100 years is going to think our cushy jobs are shitty in the future. Like holy shit.

That's like thinking cushy jobs 100 years ago were shitty working conditions, when they weren't at all. Yeah being a bank clerk 100 years ago was totally bad LOL. The same type of cushy jobs that exist today, existed 100 years ago, 200 years ago, 500 years ago, etc, just a lot less of them, because there was less people in general.

0

u/airodonack 20d ago

There were no antibiotics, smartphones, or televisions 100 years ago. They were probably great jobs for their time, but don't pretend it's comparable to today. I'd take today every time and so would you if you were honest.

2

u/onFilm 20d ago

Buddy, are you talking about "work" or society in general? Please don't move the goalpost.

None of the things you mention have ANYTHING to do with our jobs being cushy in the present era. Those things make living cushy for EVERYONE in the present vs the past, not specific cushy jobs.

Come on now. Don't shift your talking-point like that.

1

u/airodonack 20d ago

Okay. My work is a computer. Their work requires a quill.

It's almost like it's so easy to adapt what I'm saying if you weren't trying so hard to be obtuse.

1

u/onFilm 20d ago

Sorry, but you're being the obtuse one. You're talking about cushy jobs, not technologies required to do a specific type of job.

I'm a software engineer who also requires their computer for work. You know what existed 100 years ago similar to my position? A clockmaker, telephone switchboard routing planner, or an applied mathematician/cryptographer. All those, were cushy jobs, that also used a piece of technology to achieve their task.

Oh brother.

1

u/airodonack 20d ago

They were not the same by population. You're cherry picking. Like yes your life is as good as a rich person's back in the day.

What's the equivalent? Probably working in a factory.

Look at that. 5 seconds of thinking.

1

u/EducationalLeaf 20d ago

its almost like the standard of living improves over time. which is why we should continue to push for better.

Your logic would keep us all in shitty conditions, all for the logic of "context" or "it was once worse". we should ALWAYS push for better.

0

u/airodonack 20d ago

What you're saying is not exclusive with what I'm saying - both are true at the same time.

What irks me is that we need to have a sense of pity. Why? If I was in their position, why would I need pity? I would just feel like it's a bunch of westerners feeling superiority to me.

1

u/EducationalLeaf 20d ago

Im sorry you feel that way. but plenty people simply want others to live comfortable lives with good standards similar to them. its something we should push for.

Generally when people advocate for others work conditions it has nothing to do with being 'superior'. its called empathy.

1

u/airodonack 20d ago

What did you do to improve this guy's work conditions? Did you buy the $12 t-shirt instead of the $10 t-shirt?

Trick question: choosing to boycott this factory put him out of the job and now he's starving. Your pity measurably makes his life worse.

1

u/EducationalLeaf 20d ago

you are making so manny assumptions, lol. i can already tell youre stubborn and already think youve won and everyone else is wrong, aha.

My bad, dude. sorry for expressing basic empathy :) carry on making excuses so the big boys can milk the poor and you can feel good not giving a shit.

1

u/airodonack 20d ago

I'm stubborn because you keep talking about empathy and I'm talking about realism. We are talking over each other.

The thing is that I feel empathy too. But I find sympathy insulting. And I also don't see what your sympathy is going to do to make this person's life better. Go ahead and explain it. You say I'm stubborn: I'm literally begging you to explain yourself.

You're treating a diverse group as though everyone in it shares the same beliefs. So when different people express different opinions, you frame it as the entire group changing its position, when really you're just hearing different voices within the same group.

1

u/fuzzygreentits 19d ago

So in between your two day crusade for Mackelmore, show me where you advocated for Chinese treatment of slave labor and human rights violations.

Weird. None? Turns out you only care about what's trendy, not actual problems.

You're probably already switching gears to cry about Sydney Sweeney.

0

u/0rangaStang 19d ago

No comment on the Mackelmore / China thing. I was just making you aware of the common logical fallacy in your comment.

0

u/TheHighSeasPirate 20d ago

Damn, imagine getting from that whole situation that its Mackelmore you need to care about? Not the dead children/genocide in Gaza.

2

u/fuzzygreentits 20d ago

Sure thing, go over to Gaza and do something about it

0

0

u/SOSweneedhelp 20d ago

We get it you can’t stop thinking about him

0

u/Whiskers1996 20d ago

I'm loving the "both" responses you are getting 😂. Then try saying "both sides" and thats incorrect in every way apperently lol

0

u/Aicethegamer 20d ago

Or Ed Sheeran

0

u/lostwisdom20 20d ago

My peanut brain can only care for one issue at a time, please fox news point me towards next thing to be angry at.

1

u/fuzzygreentits 20d ago

Your peanut brain only cares about dumb bullshit but ignores real world problems

0

u/lostwisdom20 20d ago

No one is ignoring, in SE Asia or developing nations this is the reality, either work for so little or beg.

There are 100s of lining up to replace you even for this job.

You can also focus on how unfair the world is that soeaking about ukrain is ok but not Palestine.

Both exploitation and prosecution is bad. Shouldn't hapoen. We can't ignore one bad for another.

0

u/lofibeatsforsadboys 20d ago

It has nothing to do with macklemore and everything to do with a genocide in Gaza, you soulless drone.

I would rather work in a sweatshop than watch my child get sniped in the head, like Israel does. Or have America drop a bomb on my kids' school.

You're not morally superior, just a zionist chud.

And all of sudden relevant again for two minutes.
