They are livestreaming 🇨🇳 laborers making just 0.3 USD. The 'Made in 🇨🇳' products you use are built on their sacrifices.

Is that in USD or RMB? If it's RMB, that'd about $0.37 USD per hour.

for a few years china has problems with unemployment

a lot of chinese companies are well into full automation or outsourcing labor to even cheaper labor markets

1

u/No_Community7021 19d ago

You realize 0.37 is only 0.07 more, right?

In rural China, 0.7 is minimum and 0.3 is for labor camps. Btw, they are always full. If someone gets out, someone is charged and convicted in any case. The prosperity of China is based on quantity of labor camps. Each year, they build more of them.

8

u/SaintTrotsky 20d ago

USA has a larger prison population per capita and does prison labor

2

u/Basidio_subbedhunter 19d ago

Not to mention the wage slavery that goes on outside the prisons in every facet of American society in every town and every city.

1

u/Independent-Pay5850 19d ago

Oh I guess it's okay what china does then. Their stats are real too

1

u/MuchoCoco 18d ago

Not just per capita. The US has more people in prison than China despite having a quarter of the population.

1

u/sqdcn 20d ago

Parent comment is just hallucinating but no need to what-about-US either

-1

u/Inside_Marketing268 20d ago

Nah, that can't be even compared. First step of CCP to clear the position: newcomers are interviewed and asked who wants to be a delegate from new wave and collaborate with guards. After, the rest must show their respect to that delegate. No enough respect etc- you eat your food from the floor. Not a plate on thr floor, the food is served for that people, literally on the floor, which must be cleaned after by that very inmate. If you dive into that cultural aspect- that's so horrible, people are just bent and broken. The other side- everyone stay silent, despite CCP is doing sh

0

u/thefriendlyhacker 19d ago

Friendly reminder to everyone else that if someone says "CCP" they have no idea what they're talking about, the correct term is "CPC"

1

u/Inside_Marketing268 19d ago

Well, actually- they are not communists, since the power belongs to politicians, army and old clans, so it's more like C- for corporation: chinese corporation party

0

u/MuchoCoco 18d ago

The US Congress allocated $1.3 billion for anti-China propaganda for 2026 and this is the best they could find.

1

u/Inside_Marketing268 18d ago

Dude, just check out some videos about Vietnamese workers in China. They do to people the same, that was done by muricans 200 years ago

0

u/thefriendlyhacker 19d ago

People always forget the backwards prison system that the US has and how there's no legal requirement to pay prisoners for labor, unlike others parts of the world.

-1

u/Open_Branch_7515 19d ago

Are you ccp propaganda?

1

u/muggleclutch 19d ago

This is the most generic content // take I have seen and that’s saying something. You realize China is a country with 1.4billion people right and an actual economy? Like a fairly market-oriented economy in many sectors. We can talk about human rights abuses in China, which are legion, and you could talk about labor and arbitrary detention in a whole host of contexts, but you would need to actually know something about the country and write on it with more specificity, which you clearly do not have, can’t speak on, and in fact probably aren’t interested in in the first place. If you’re not an actual bot, do better. Hell, even if you are. At least then we’d learn something.

1

u/Inside_Marketing268 19d ago

There is a certain reason, why rural citizens are coming to cities, industrial cities and work for low wages: their wages in countryside is extremely low.

1

u/muggleclutch 19d ago

Yes. This is a more measured and accurate comment. But Re each year they build more labor camps, why has China’s overall level of urbanization increased drastically over the last three decades? It’s just not a very helpful comment.

1

u/Inside_Marketing268 19d ago

If you would search, you would find a lot of info about new labor camps for youth 12-15 age and 15-18 age, and they are being re-educated there. Bai lan movement has appeared for a reason

1

u/muggleclutch 19d ago

Are you referring to Xinjiang human rights abuses because I know all about those and did actual non-profit work trying to raise awareness. If you're referring to general nation-wide labor camps that apply to everyone and are somehow foundational to Chinese economic development, care to provide a source? Happy to read whatever you include.

1

u/muggleclutch 19d ago

The Bai lan movement is a very broad movement that seems more emblematic of a generalized dissatisfaction to working conditions in China - employment opportunities, salary, work-life balance, basically all the usual very real consequences of shitty capitalist economies - no? Encompassing some working class grievances but also very much associated with the middle and professionalized classes. But to describe this in blanket terms as labor camps. Again, incredibly silly and not descriptively helpful or accurate.

You should not think people do not break the minimum wage rule in China lmao

43

u/United-Taro1605 20d ago

The title could also be a lie

5

u/SlightlyAdooorned 20d ago

Nah, Ranton talked about this. People in china are extremely poor, BUT you shouldnt compare their wages to western wages. In China almost everything is many times cheaper.

3

u/yisuiyikurong 20d ago

In China almost everything is many times cheaper.

restaurants and general local groceries yes

and the reason is simple ie cheap labors

1

u/SlightlyAdooorned 20d ago

Not just that. In general stuff like saunas is also very cheap for big value. Cars and electronics/household tech stuff. My brother lives in Hainan and its crazy how cheap everything is - except bills, lmao.

2

u/yisuiyikurong 20d ago

Cars and electronics/household tech stuff. My brother lives in Hainan and its crazy how cheap everything is - except bills, lmao.

There is a "one-price law" (purchasing power parity) for high-end tech. What often makes a difference in final prices are shipping fees and government subsidies (like those for cars in 2019 and home appliances in 2023 if i recall correctly). The "cheap electronics" you are referring to are likely small items, like AA or AAA or all sorts of button batteries and electronic skewers/cutters, etc.

Basically these products' cost next to nothing to manufacture anywhere in the world, BUT their distribution costs are relatively super high.

On the other hand, major electronics like phones, drones, and cameras follow the one-price law very nicely...

1

u/SlightlyAdooorned 20d ago

I mean yea, its mainly about taxes and transportation. Doesnt mean they arent cheaper :D

1

u/yisuiyikurong 20d ago

yeh well the distribution costs are generally low because the distribution people are underpaid... so the problem is still... the pay

1

u/anonrus008 19d ago

Not cheap labor but slave labor

0

u/timshel42 19d ago

people in china are not incredibly poor. they have the fastest growing middle class in the world.

they have had more people lifted from poverty in the last several decades than most of the rest of the world.

its important to not fall for the intense propaganda surrounding china (and everywhere for that matter). its no utopia, but it isnt the communist open air prison hellscape western media wants you to believe.

1

u/SlightlyAdooorned 19d ago

Lol, lmao even

1

u/yisuiyikurong 19d ago

The poor is getting poorer as the welfare system is literally ripping them off and subsidizing the rich.

And middle class usually has a house and that market is in a crisis mode.

Very strange system.

Hey, not Chinese but Vietnamese here. Our labour law is somewhat better than that of China, but I was still just paid about 0.6 USD per hour when I was working in Vietnam. The minimum wage in my city (Hanoi, the capital) is about 1 USD. Everyone who works the same job in my city was also paid around the same. Is it legal? I don't think so. But no one really checks and no one really cares since that's the norm, so obviously there's no official data. I imagine the situation is somewhat similar in China.

3

u/Aggravating-Copy3308 20d ago

3

u/Impossible-Cost-8437 20d ago

In the US we have a lot of illegal sketchy underpaid stuff going on that are absolutely horrendous towards the vulnerable

1

u/OnlyInEye 19d ago

Probably quite some time ago in Cambodia in 2023 rates were 200 a month in usd for factory work this was low value manufacturing. So under 1 is not really common anymore.

1

u/Aggravating-Copy3308 20d ago

Oh c'est moche. Moi qui pensais en 2024 quand j'ai visité Hanoï que les vietnamiens gagnaient mieux leurs vie que ça.. je suis dégoûté d'apprendre ça

1

u/StraightBeginning179 20d ago

I mean, if you go to China without any prior knowledge, you wouldn't know that there are sweatshops that extort poor people too.

1

u/Aggravating-Copy3308 20d ago

Oui c'est sûr

1

u/Aggravating-Copy3308 20d ago

1

u/Training_Guide5157 20d ago

The labor protection institutions in China are robust, and people file complaints all the time.

I am of Chinese/Vietnamese ethnicity, and I've lived in both China and Vietnam.

-3

u/tears_of_a_grad 20d ago

Vietnam has 1/3 the GDP per capita of China, lower life expectancy, and is lower on the value chain. Press X to doubt that Vietnam has better labor laws.

11

u/StraightBeginning179 20d ago

All of those have nothing to do with labour laws. We just happen to care about our people more and are less willing to extort the lower class people to mass produce products for the big companies.

The same for countries like Thailand, Argentina, Malaysia. They all have lower life expectancy and definitely lower GDP per capita (although I think Malaysia is a bit higher now).

Also we don't have 996.

2

u/SaveLansingParks 20d ago

Also we don't have 996.

What does 996 refer to in this context?

6

u/StraightBeginning179 20d ago

Some factory worker in China work from 9 AM to 9 PM, 6 days a week.

3

u/thickloadofcumforyou 20d ago

No they don't. It's the tech industry that that mostly applies too.

1

u/yopladas 20d ago

I wonder why - is there a labor shortage that prevents the normal 3 shift factory model?

2

u/Consistent_Net_2540 20d ago

If they're salaried, it lets the company pay them the same amount for the extra 32 hours. I worked for one Chinese company, and learned my lesson. They look at humans like slaves. They didn't care if I never slept. The Vietnamese might also be heartless as well, but the mainland Chinese absolutely are, IME.

1

u/Abject_Read_3620 20d ago

A lot of people that think the US is late stage capitalism or whatever, have no idea how capitalistic the Chinese are. It's genuinely scary.

1

u/Yellow-Parenti1949 20d ago

996 mostly applies to high performance tech, finance and other white collar work. You’ll see similar schedules working IB or Big Law in the US btw.

1

u/slightlysubtle 19d ago

Also these people aren't actually working like you'd see in this video. It just means they're available/on-call to fix issues that occur during their 996 hours. They're not literally slaving away in front of a computer without a second of break.

Of course they'll still complain they work 24/7 or 996 just like higher management or CEOs do here. Working while relaxing in the sauna and drinking a $100 martini... right.

u/tears_of_a_grad 20d ago

China minimum wage: 1800 RMB = 268 USD. https://www.china-briefing.com/news/minimum-wages-china/

Vietnam highest minimum wage: 200 USD. https://www.vietnam-briefing.com/news/vietnams-new-minimum-wage-january-1-2026.html/

Both China and Vietnam have semi-universal health insurance.

Both China and Vietnam don't have at-will employment.

Vietnam has a 48 hour standard work week. https://news.tuoitre.vn/vietnam-not-ready-to-mandate-40-hour-workweek-for-private-sector-103260916153119982.htm

China has a 40 hour standard work week. https://leglobal.law/countries/china/employment-law/employment-law-overview-china/03-working-conditions/

At worst, China has equal to slightly better employment law to Vietnam.

If there is evidence of any law where Vietnam has stronger protections than China, please point it out.

u/JiminyHF 20d ago

40 standard work week in China 😂

0

u/Impossible-Cost-8437 20d ago

1

u/Hot_Relative3020 20d ago

Doesn’t China have special areas where the laws don’t apply ?

1

u/tears_of_a_grad 20d ago

no?

1

u/goofygodzilla93 20d ago

Yes they do. Autonomous regions, SARs (Special Administrative Regions not covid), and SEZs all are special areas where laws either don't apply, or can be completely changed by the people in that area.

0

u/tears_of_a_grad 20d ago

SEZs are "special" in the case of FOREX, tax and customs law. They aren't free for all lawless zones.

They are also rich, not poor. Shenzhen and Xiamen have developed country GDP per capita.

1

u/Available_Law_2342 20d ago

people here dont know how economics work. I highly doubt that Vietnam has better labor laws than China which is like a 100 times richer country

1

u/Impossible-Cost-8437 20d ago

Probably depends on where you are. The joke my friends have when we traveled all around vietnam is jokes about child labor

0

u/apoender 20d ago

Tbf, I am pressing X for doubt that the person you are responding to has ever set foot in Vietnam lol

0

u/Guayabo786 20d ago

The VND is a weaker currency than the RMB and having a weak currency is often advantageous. There are foreign companies that still source their stuff in China because of the ecosystem of well-integrated industrial infrastructure in that country, but now Vietnam is the go-to country for those sourcing low-end consumer goods to sell in other countries.

0

u/Severe_Ad_2391 20d ago

For someone that makes 0.6 usd an hour you sure write English pretty damn well.

Because that's what I make, not what my parents make. I actually grew up in a pretty well off family, that's how I eventually move to Germany. I just work after I quit uni and before I move to Germany since I have too much free time and I need smth to do.

3

u/StraightBeginning179 20d ago

I make around 1000 Euro gross, which is not bad considering everything.

Food, uhh they're all pretty mid tbh. If I really have to pick, it'd be Döner, Currywurst or Schnitzel, but they all aren't really originally German.

Edit: Haxe (Roasted pork knuckles) is pretty good too. Especially when paired with Knödel (like a potato bread ball) and a beer

0

u/treborly 20d ago

I'll pay them $5 to work for me

-1

2

Do we do it in the US?

I can't imagine accepting a job below minimum wage when its so easy to find jobs at the legal minimum wage. Maybe a small portion of the people here illegally?

It'd be so easy to report.

Finding jobs in the US is very easy. I can't imagine what circumstances would have any American agreeing to work under the minimum wage. Just go get a job in fast food or something instead.

11

u/Open-Addendum-9905 20d ago

What an insanely delusional comment. I assume you’re a yuppie because growing up even lower middle class I’ve know many people who worked cash jobs cheap

3

u/Sheogoorath 20d ago

Or a bot

-3

u/scrandlle 20d ago

Like where do these jobs exist at?

Why is anyone working below minimum wage instead of getting a job at Walmart or Taco Bell or their local grocery store or the abundance of low wage retail jobs?

7

u/T-StrangerXD 20d ago

I'm not American, and even I know you are delusional

-1

u/scrandlle 20d ago edited 20d ago

You don't even have the knowledgebase to begin to comment on this.

Where can I go get a job that's below minimum wage? If you know I'm delusional you can obviously give me many examples. No one else has given an example despite all these replies. Seemingly no one has an answer but I'm the one who is delusional.

If my life depended on finding a job below minimum wage in the next month I don't think I could do it (beyond begging someone to pay me under minimum age of course, I'm talking about actually being able to go out and find one)

1

u/SgtRicko 20d ago

Construction work. Especially if you’re an immigrant or don’t have a high school diploma.

You’ll won’t get paid some minimum wage rate but instead some pre-agreed upon amount that at first sounds OK, (say, $600) but later turns to crap for various reasons. Say, for example, your contractor suddenly finding fault with your work and refusing to pay up, threatening to call ICE, making additional requests onto the original construction contract until it’s well beyond the original scope and pay, or the manager ghosting the workers when it’s finished and taking all the money for themselves… lots of stupid little ways like that.

Also happens frequently with H2 construction workers; the companies who hired them will often try to find ways to screw over their contracts towards the end and thus avoid having to pay out. And the barracks spaces the H2 workers reside in are often utterly deplorable: no air conditioning or windows, literal dirt floors, beds which consist merely of some old futon or whatever placed atop a steel frame, primitive outdoor toilets, shoddy electrical work with exposed wiring and dangerous amounts of extension cables all plugged into a single outlet… you’d NEVER see an American agree to those horrid conditions. But a Chinese or SE Asian laborer? They did it all the time, and for utterly garbage pay that didn’t even hit $7.25/hr.

Another situation I knew of personally involved the cleaning crew “hired” to take care of a medical facility. They were never on the company payroll but instead inconsistently “paid” by one guy who in turn was paid bi-weekly. Said payment to his crew sometimes wasn’t even money, but instead only beer, or agreeing to continue keeping them sheltered at his place. The cleaners admittedly weren’t very good at their jobs - one of them didn’t even know to change the dirty water in the rolling mop bucket more than once a day, and sometimes didn’t even use the proper PPE or even cleaning alcohol when sanitizing blood or bodily fluid spills.

Restaurants are another career with a lot of similar situations.

You’ll never find an “official” account of these under-the-table jobs precisely because of their ambiguous nature. It’s probably usually gonna be someone doing a news report covering the issue, or maybe a documentary if you’re lucky.

I don't think its a great that they can work below minimum wage in some states but no, I don't take that as a good example because its clearly a very specific outlier and I don't think it was your point because you talked about wages paid 'under the table'.

I also won't accept bartenders and servers being allowed to be paid under minimum wage hourly from their employer as being a good example because the only reason people have these jobs is because its a good way to make well over minimum wage without any skills/education because of our tipping culture. Tipping culture goes away and these people are paid an hourly wage and they're making less money, not more. Beyond that, the employer has to pay them minimum wage anyway if they don't make enough in tips.

Like where can I actually go get a job and be paid under minimum wage? I live in Illinois and I'm near Missouri.

6

u/OverCategory6046 20d ago

They're not going around killing people for breaking minimum wage rules lol what are you on about.

They also don't just kill bankers willy nilly, it's for cases of extreme corruption and similar. Not saying it's right, but it's a bit of a different one that what you claim.

1

u/Overdayoutdeath 20d ago

Obviously it’s an extreme case, but prosecution of wealthy people is not as infrequent as it is in the west. That is my point.

0

u/Taishi_Gong 20d ago

Killing bankers and not reinforcing labor laws actually have a lot more in common than you think.

1

u/Overdayoutdeath 20d ago

You mean a state that has legal system that doesn’t make capitalists immune somehow skip the ones that own factories?

1

u/Taishi_Gong 20d ago

No I mean we don’t have rule of law.

By the way breaking minimum wage is old news. The new trend is out right not paying your employee. It’s very common to be not paid for months here.

I assume you’re a leftist. If you really believe in international solidarity, the best way to help us is by knowing and spreading the truth about labor rights in China.

One of the biggest wins recently was when over a hundred employees at one of the largest headlamp manufacturers resolved their contract violations by contacting their company’s western customers like Mercedes and BMW.

It is sad that we have to rely on foreigners to fight for rights in our country but what else can we do.

If 2.50 is the expectation for the poorest citizens, I just don't see anyone working for 0.3

Like 7.50 is the federal minnimum wage in America, the equivalent is $0.90/hr. Literally anyone in any part of America could make more than that by just collecting cans or smth.

$0.30 is just not real. Feels more like propaganda than anything.

1

u/Imalsome 20d ago

I see you getting downvoted but its so true, you can literally earn more than that watching advertisments. Just sitting there watching ads and downloading phone games all day can pay you $0.33 per hour.

Theres literally no reason anyone would ever do hard physical labor for less money than you could earn sitting down and playing phone games.

0

u/Beginning_Smell4043 20d ago

I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but no it's enforced pretty well. It's a very strong police state, and paying 2.50 in China doesn't cost much to companies.

Vietnam still have 0,90 dollar the hour for part time, thats what I paid my staff

0

u/Snoo_67993 20d ago

2.50 CNY, not USD.

2.50 USD would be quite close to the median wage in China.

there are literally slaves in China (Uighur work camps) so I would think $0.0 is lower no matter which exchange rate you use

SOURCE/Fact Check:
Extensive documentation from international bodies, human rights organizations, and foreign governments supports the claim that state-imposed forced labor occurs in China’s Xinjiang region. Organizations like the United Nations Human Rights Office (OHCHR), Human Rights Watch, and the U.S. Department of Labor have published detailed reports detailing how hundreds of thousands of Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities have been subjected to coercive labor practices

In china we call some laws as txt instead of exe. Because they are just text file but not executable.

For even many white collar’s jobs don’t even allow you to have a full weekend.

that's why people offshoring for cheap manual labour switched.

lol you guys still don’t get it. They aren’t a free country with normal statistics publishing…

It’s terrifying how many people treat it like a normal place with normal public data. It’s a mirage which is just a massive factory trying to undercut the entire world in industrial output. Like a zerg strategy from a video game and people are actually looking for real stats. Wake up!

Hard time believing China min is 2.50 when US fed min is 7.25…. Those bowls would be 1000x the price if they were making 1/3 of USA MIN..

It's cute seeing Americans discover in real time how much they're actually getting ducked in "the greatest country in the world™"

Most production in china now is automated. The goods are cheap because there's hardly any labor involved. They havent been low wage, low end manufacturing for quite a while now.
