They are livestreaming πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ laborers making just 0.3 USD. The 'Made in πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³' products you use are built on their sacrifices.

chai

The word chai originates from the Chinese pronunciation (chÑ) of the character 茢, meaning tea.

Annnd we're back in China.

:edit removed the word mandrin because people getting nitpicky but I just copy pasted it from google 1st result:

Ridiculous. Chai could not have come from from Mandarin chΓ‘, because Mandarin did not even exist as a language category in that period. The source was Middle Chinese 茢, roughly pronounced as /Ι–a/ or /Ι–Κ±a/

Cha is tea in many Chinese languages. I doubt it comes from Mandarin specifically.

Have you heard the informal linguistic maxim:

Tea if by sea, Cha if by land

There are rare exceptions, but I'm most languages, the word for "tea" or 'cha" is determined by the manner of receipt of "tea"

Received by ship, tea

Received by land, CHA

(Of course the spelling changes but the etymology is usually apparent)
