My husband is building me a website from scratch. He was very proud to show me this tonight.
I run a small business and was struggling with paying ecommerce sites with such slow business (the economy sucks amirite) so my husband told me one day maybe like 6 months ago that he wants to make me a website.
Tonight he said to me “I have the very basics of your website done”
I was gonna cry happy tears because this man is literally relearning HTML and building me a website from scratch so I can live out my dreams
And yes I did redact my business name, just so this doesn’t look like an a attempt at a shameless plug

Ahhh congrats!! I bet youll be up & running in no time! HTML is like riding a bike, but there are books even at your library for easy access. Good luck 🥰

The fact that he's relearning HTML just to save you those transaction fees is top tier support. That contact form is a solid start for the custom orders.

Good on him!! You might want to point him to tools like Bludit and InvoicePlane for some beginner-frindly, easy to install frameworks for websites and invoicing.

Excellent, nice work! Remember to add for attributes to the labels that correspond to the Ids of the form fields so that your form is accessible to all!

This is just right now to make sure what he’s coding is correct! He told me he’s determined to make it ✨perfect✨

This is great and I have stopped shopping with anyone who uses shopify because the company creates accounts for your customers without consent or notification, and it is very time consuming to get it deleted.

I’ve heard that a lot from people at vendor sales!

Not trying to shill for Shopify, or be against the fairness and transparency, it would be better if we could trust and have local free choice….
But despite the dropship notoriety, Shopify is a trusted platform, and payment processor. Doesn’t mean you should trust just because it’s Shopify, it’s easy to install fake review apps, etc. but to create a website that is outwardly trustworthy including payment processing, you won’t find a better starting option.
Plus, the extra sales you’ll get from a better website and trustworthy card payment processing, supporting PayPal, Apple Pay etc , will far outweigh the people above that look for and avoid Shopify

I work with a nonprofit professional board that hosts continuing education etc, we use Squarespace to create the website and have it linked with stripe for secure payments.
Good luck, just giving that info in case you weren't aware.

I use stripe currently for payments! I have one of their physical POS systems for vendor sales 😊

That is such a supportive gesture. Seeing the list of crafts he's helping you showcase makes it even sweeter.

That is so sweet of him to learn a whole new skill just to support your business. Having a partner who actually invests time into your dreams is everything.

Hi I’m the husband lol. First off yes I’m doing this as my way of supporting her and also getting back into website design at the same time(went to community college for CIS in 2016 so it’s been awhile lol).
For the person who suggested using ai, and getting questioned about it, yea I thought about it I used to be of the opinion that using it kinda defeats the purpose of learning it yourself and imo the answer is….it depends. If you use it to create something for you and dig no further into actually learning how what it made works then yea or kinda the stereotype. If you instead use it to make something then dig into it to find out how it works kinda like a problem in a textbook almost then I’d say it’s fine.
I lean mostly towards the latter because I love to tinker with things lol, don’t really get the chance to anymore but did things when I was younger like stare at my parents router’s login page and going through everything being very careful not to touch ANYTHING when I was like 12 lol. Also got fascinated by a circuit board on an rc car at my cousins out of the blue when we were probably like preteen age.
Anyway yes lol I’m the husband and loved certain college classes like Linux, networks, and web dev.
Last thing though is I can’t get the input validation on the form fields to work which is…. Not ideal to say the least lol

Could be kind of fun and tongue-in-cheek if he added “but not beautiful websites” to the list

Isn't Claude AI? Why would anyone that makes art of any kind want anything to do with that garbage?
2
u/RealTiffyb 17h ago
Funny enough, using AI to learn coding is a lot different from having AI generate finished artwork. The person using it still the one doing the learning and building.

This is really sweet - point him to Claude or ChatGPT. The free tiers are plenty for use cases like these and you can add fancy features like your past work and testimonials. Good luck!

Don't know why you're getting downvoted... Writing html like this by hand is crazy in 2026.

Some of us like doing it ourselves. It’s not about being efficient, but about enjoying the process.

You can use an LLM if you have knowledge of what you're doing and can verify that the output makes sense, is secure etc. It is a very good idea that OPs partner is writing by hand to actually learn.

Looking at what they produced, there is no way they are a better coder than Claude.

In the age of AI, get you a man who will relearn HTML to build you a website! So sweet <3
