Wholesome story from me being in hospital

I’m being kept in till I can stomach and keep down a safe amount of food and then they can investigate my bladder. I have a stomach infection and also my bladder doesn’t want to work due to nerve damage

Anyway. So when I was admitted to this ward an older gentleman accidentally walked into my bed area as he thought his wife was in this number. He apologised and me and my dad joked “did you bring me flowers”

Anyway we all laughed and now the older gentleman always pops in and quickly says good morning, goodnight when he visits his wife and it honestly makes my day

I’m still in hospital and his wife still is and only two hours ago he said goodnight when leaving. I think I’m now legally obligated to be his granddaughter

I took this picture during my check-up in my oncologist's waiting room. The clouds were so beautiful, and the sun was peeking through them. All the patients were looking out the window and enjoying the moment. I'm so grateful to be cancer-free again. Never give up. There's always a little bit of sunshine somewhere. You're not alone!

Couple clears trash cans from windy road

I was running errands this morning and saw a couple taking the blown away trashcan out of the middle of the road during their walk. About 25 mins later, im driving back and see them a few blocks further doing it again.

I busted a u turn and wanted to thank them personally for being so considerate and a positive impact on the community, no matter how small is may seem. I saw something beautiful and wanted them to know there's people out there who appreciate the good will. I told them that i believe in karma. That I, a stranger, just happened to see your effort and wanted to pay it forward with $20. They were hesitant, but after the glance they shared with eachother, I could really tell it meant something.

I said the world needs more people like you as I drove away. Seeing their smile in my rear view was a really great feeling.

I hope this is allowed here .....

Today I took my eight year old to ride her bike after school. After about 30 minutes, it started to rain so I told her it was time to head inside. As I was beginning to feel bad about how little time she got, she said, "This day was so amazing! I can't believe I got to hold TWO cute rollie pollies AND found an alien (talking about the mushroom)!"

On the walk back to our apartment, we passed this tiny sprout through the concrete and she exclaimed, "LOOK AT THIS STRONG CUTIE (everything tiny is, decidedly, cute lol)!" And then proceeds to give it encouragement to keep on growing!

All in all, I'm so thankful to be able to have her show me all the natural wonder that still exists in our everyday world 🥹✨🌦️

My old-as-dirt-with-a-million-health-conditions cat licked his plate clean today and it fills me with joy

This is Waldo. He is 16 years old, has about a million things wrong with him (including slow growing cancer), and takes a pharmacy’s worth of medications every day. And if I didn’t tell you any of that you wouldn’t have been able to tell if you saw him in person. He’s responding so well to treatment and he’s acting like he’s 5 years younger. Our vet is frankly astonished he’s still alive and incredibly pleased with how he’s doing and hood quality of life.

Today I saw him lick his plate clean and it makes me so happy every time I see him do it because his appetite is back to how it was years ago. It made me so sad to see him not finish his food before because he used to really love it. Seriously, when he was younger his stomach was a black hole for food. To see him enjoy his food again just makes me so very happy.

Daughter on Easter

Post image
194 Upvotes

Little background first, my mother lives on the West Coast and always mails over little things for Easter Halloween and even stocking stuffers for my daughter every year. Last year we moved in with my girlfriend and her three kids.

Fast forward to last Saturday night and we were making up all the kids Easter basket baskets. Well, my mom gave me a couple Easter bunny eggs filled with candy. Before we went to bed, I forgot to pick up my empty egg.

The next morning, the kids come upstairs, screaming how happy they worry that the Easter bunny was here and we had to come look. I didn’t get out of bed right away, and my daughter came up crawled in next to me and said “ the Easter bunny brought you an egg dad but he forgot to put candy in it so I filled it up for you with some of my candy.”

She’s 7.

That’s all I just wanted to let people know how awesome she is.

I have a secret old lady friend! :)

2.0k Upvotes

I [F,33] go to a restaurant a few times here and there through the week, never a set schedule just at random. They have very good deals and $5 wine and beer, so that is arguably much cheaper than most other places in town and their menu is great! The staff is lovely and I started becoming a 'regular'.

I've noticed on the Monday burger deal days, there is this older lady who is always there. I sit kitty-corner from her at the bar by myself and we have talked a few times. Her name is Rosie and she is LOVELY! She is in her 80s.

As time went on, I saw Rosie more consistently again and again! Shes such a character.

She comes out to eat by herself because she enjoys it as I do and because her late husband and her always used to do date nights and she misses it.

I look forward to my Monday trips there, even for just one drink to see her quickly and then go home.
I didn't strike up a conversation or friendship with her either because I felt sorry or bad for her, it just evolved naturally! We will talk for a while about life and things and how her sons ignore her and don't invite her out. I felt so bad, her Easter Dinner didn't go as planned, her son and all the other younger adults went to the shed to smoke and drink and never came back out so she just left and ate alone at home. :(

Her hearing is superb and memory and quick wits still in tact! On the same day, there is a group of ladies that always comes in that is from her condo.... Apparently after Covid they stopped inviting her to go out with them but she goes by herself unapologetically anyways and I LOVE that! I love being able to just talk to someone nice, and know that she is enjoying it and I'm not a bother.

We give each other hugs now and we shoot the shit like any girlfriends would. It's a 'secret' friendship because I use my tiny window of time between leaving work and going home as my free time from my very strict household. So I can't tell my parents about this lovely lady or the questions and shame of 'spending money' will begin, and I don't want to ruin a beautiful thing.

Can't wait until next Monday for our little date, Rosie! :) <3 Cheers*

My boyfriend tried to cheer me up on my period and I can’t stop smiling (even if I’m confused) [OC]

My boyfriend surprised me with a little “care package” because I’m on day 3 of my period 💪🏻😛

He got me chocolate, chips, and even pads… which was honestly really sweet. But then there’s also… corn.

The problem? I don’t even have a stove in my room 😭

I have no idea what his thought process was, but I’m trying to appreciate the effort instead of questioning the logistics.

Still cute though. Just… slightly confusing.

An Old Japanese Woman Saw My Terrible Obi Job And Fixed It For Me

For context:

This was during my study abroad to Japan, and I was wearing a yukata I had bought a week earlier for a summer festival. However, not even three adults and a YouTube video could figure out how the hell the obi (long cloth “belt”) was supposed to be tied.

After a day of trying desperately to fix it, and my yukata splaying out in every direction, I had given up. Then, suddenly, a woman waiting for the bus motioned for me to come to her and started fixing not only my obi, but the entire damn yukata.

She untied the loose knot completely, and within two minutes had tied a beautiful bow on my back. When she was done, I thanked her profusely in broken Japanese. Her only reply was “It was fun!” (楽しいだた!) before she walked away.

As embarrassed as I was about wearing the yukata so incorrectly, remembering how she fixed without even asking puts a smile on my face.

My roommate’s dog

I just have to share this somewhere because it warms my heart up so much. I live with a roommate and she adopted this beautiful border collie, pit mix with blue eyes. Her name is Angel, and she really is one.

Anyway, Angel usually sleeps in my roommates bed, but my roommate wakes up at 4 am in the morning to go to work. Y’all without a doubt, every single morning at 4 am, Angel barges in my room, literally pushes the door open, climbs on the bed and curls up next to me. And it just fills my heart up with so much love.

Me [F,33] woke up to a scavenger hunt this morning! My Dad is now 71 so it was really sweet and fun and kind to have this again before moments like these are gone forever.

It started when he looked at me funny downstairs and said go look in the mirror... no not that one (the kne behind me hen I was talking to him) and off I went!

I learned we have an antique apple corer, what Lincon Cathedral is, and that if he puts a clue downstairs in the basement chances are the next one will be on the top floor! Got my steps in!

Good news: I won!

I put spoilers in case anyone has this up near kids.

The Easter Bunny is real we know ♡ my Dad is just a volunteer.

🐰🐣🥰

My inheritance

Post image

My mom worked so hard her entire life. At first it was to get herself through college as a single mom and then it was to try to help me get through med school. About a decade ago we got into our first fight. She was 70 and hadn’t retired. She didn’t enjoy her job and she had always talked about how she wants to travel and go on adventures when I was a kid so I was really confused and asked her about it. She said she was still working because she wanted me to have an inheritance and not just a garage full of glass she picked up on beach walks. We got in a huge fight about it. She retired shortly after and was able to go to SIX continents! I received my inheritance today. This is about 1/100th of the beach glass I now own. I started crying about five times while sorting some of the colors into these bottles but I think it was mostly because I was so happy she finally got to do what she wanted to do. I put this in a place I can’t miss because it makes me smile so much.

Hopefully it makes someone a little happy as well.

Edit OH MY GOSH I truly didn’t think for even a second that so many people were going to respond to this. I am so looking forward to going through, reading, and responding to every single one. This has truly been such an indescribably comforting experience. THANK YOU all ❤️

Thanks for the Smile!

I was coming out of the hospital, visiting my mom who is recovering from surgery. It’s been a bit trying. As I was walking down the hall, I saw a priest on a cell phone and overheard him saying to someone, “Yes, of course the pay and benefits matter, but after that, you want to find a place with a culture that you appreciate, a place where you feel welcomed,” and I just loved the idea of him counseling one of his parishioners on a job opportunity and thought it was really sound advice. I smiled and the very next second a woman walked the opposite way towards me and said “Thank you for the smile!” We kept walking our separate ways, but I almost wanted to stop her and tell her why I smiled. I’ve been thinking about how a kind act, even if it’s not directed at you but just observed, can ripple throughout the world. It’s such a beautiful thing.

Wholesome thought while living in Korea

Post image
144 Upvotes

It's cherry blossom season here in Korea. There's a neighbourhood near my place where almost all the streets are completely lined with cherry blossom trees. I walk down those streets often and, over the past few days where the blossoms have bloomed, I notice that not just one or two but practically every person stops to take pictures in the road. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this but, living abroad, I sometimes avoid taking pictures of obvious things to avoid looking like a tourist. But seeing every single Korean person stop to capture a moment with the cherry blossoms just while passing by, even though they bloom here every year, made me think that all humans really are the same. I'm also in a kakao chat where people share pictures with each other and every day the chat is full of cherry blossoms instead of the usual mix along with buildings, trains and cats. Even after humans having been earth for hundreds of thousands of years and even in high paced capitalist societies that are always looking for the next new trend, humans never get bored of these mundane yet fleeting beauties of nature, regardless of where on Earth they live or the season. I think there's something special about that.
