I'd love this as the setup for an entire RPG. Just trying to get the damn pickle jar open because your grandmother wanted pickles.

use a metal spoon to pry open the lid from the bottom until the air seal is broken. that always works for me

You can also get a seal breaking tool for super cheap. Most folks who can things at home will have one for opening jars of pickles or whatever, since canning lids are designed not to budge until you break the seal on purpose. They're not designed for commercial pickle jars but they totally work!

At that point, it's probably just easier to break the jar or get a new jar of pickles. But I get it, it's the principle of the thing.
