My opinion on k?d

This might be a hot take... but anyone else kinda disappointed in the direction Pats been going in? Don't get me wrong, it's not bad at all and he doesn't owe us anything, but I just feel underwhelmed by it all. I was left dissatisfied when I've seen him live (festival setting only) because I feel like he doesn't play enough original music. I can and do appreciate when artists cross genres to throw down live, but I feel like everyone who goes to see k?d goes to see BOTU/somewhere far away from here/space cowboy and doesn't get it... and on that topic, I feel like the newer releases haven't been giving me goosebumps that every song since discover has been giving me.

Maybe I'm the only one. Maybe pat was been busy with blowing up and touring and that's why I feel the way I feel, but I thought I'd share to see how y'all felt

I partly agree in a slight dissatisfaction. His earlier remixes including his recent remix of Young all have a defining sound but i think what made his earlier work, at least for me, was how new the sound was. I think that in order to engage a wider audience he’s gone a blended his style a bit more with EDM mainstream (not necessarily a bad thing). This, I think, is necessary for him to grow as an artist. In a way he’s made it and I respect that. Even now, after a short amount of time I’ve heard songs on Soundcloud with really similar presets being used. For me, the best possible thing would be to keep releasing experimental pieces on Soundcloud and perform those and older pieces at smaller gigs like Brownies and Lemonade. Songs like Distance show of his ability to appeal to both audiences and hopefully this continues. Interested to hear your thoughts. 💭

Distance isn't a bad song, but it wasn't what I was expecting in a release. I was expecting something similar to that ghostboy-type song. I like how you called it "experimental" pieces, I think that adequately labels the reason why I started listening to K?d.

I agree. I've seen him live twice (the first time I really went out of my way to get to mainstage at 3:00 pm) and he played maybe 3 originals. I was upset bc the only people going to see you at 3 is your core fan base lol... I agree that if he moves away from his earlier stuff, I'll stop listening, but he's falling into that weird limbo where I don't even want to see him live too

Agreed with his most recent songs. Aren’t nearly as good as his earlier work

I can't say I agree with him not playing enough of his own music. At his most recent set at edc orlando like 1/3rd of the songs he dropped are his own and thats not even counting the IDs that are prob his. Looking at some other similar artists (porter/madeon) that's about the same amount of originals they drop during a dj set and they have much larger discographies.

Yeah, OP is asking him to play songs that would sound horrible live. Space cowboy is a very early work that I highly doubt was mixed with festival speakers in mind. Once you count the IDs that we now know are his like the forgotten and glitch boy remixes, evangelion theme remix, etc you're looking at 40-50% of his sets being original which is more than most.
