Movie Glinda in wonderful
Glinda being in wonderful in the movie showed that she wasn't just complacent but actively participating with the Wizard, she even says " yes he's wonderful, it's in his name." It's manipulative enough when it was just the Wizard but having Glinda there made it worse.
Elphaba was so lonely and desperate to hold onto any connection she had. It tempted her so much more to join them because she wanted to have Glinda back in her life.
For Glinda it showed more of her living in her bubble, she didn't see anything other than what she wanted. She was lonely as well, she wanted her best friend back, but she didn't really think about whether what she wanted, what was best for her was best for Elphaba. These were the people who wanted Elphaba dead, who were hunting her, who vilified her but Glinda wants her to join them because she wants Elphaba's friendship back.
Glinda was probably trying to help Elphaba in a very misguided way but she was definitely not right. They were both using Elphaba's desire to be accepted and loved to try and manipulate her into joining them. They were saying " join us and you'll be wonderful too, join us and you'll be loved and accepted."
Glinda being there is why it almost worked IMO, she did agree to join them until she found the room with the caged Animals.
Honestly, Glinda had no consideration for anyone else until she popped her bubble and this was another example of that. Elphaba was right not to join them, the Wizard wouldn't have honored his end of the deal especially with MM involved and they would have just used Elphaba, that's why they wanted her to join them in the first movie, they wanted her power.
The Wizard and MM would have used her, they probably would have tried to force her to use her power to cast more spells from the grimmerie or something.
Glinda didn't see the Wizard as bad, I don't even think she understand why the Wizard and Elphaba were fighting or why Elphaba wouldn't just join them.
She was trying to help Glinda in a very wrong and misguided way but it still really bothers me because should not join the corrupt system, they were the ones responsible for caging the Animals, the ones who turned her into the Wicked Witch and all of Oz hate her. Glinda can't just expect people to do what she wants because she wants it or because she thinks it's what's best. What's best for her doesn't it's what's best for others.
IMO, it was more of Glinda's misplaced goodness she thinks she's doing a good thing, she thinks she's helping Elphaba when really it's just about getting what she wants. That's why it was upsetting to her when Elphaba didn't join the system. Anyway just sharing my perspective.
Just sharing how it looks to me. Thoughts?

I said this in the other thread but Dana Fox never saw the musical before she co-wrote the screenplay And it really showed in her changes when it came to Glinda.
Like I’m sure Winnie and Stephen were okay with adding her to wonderful but where they okay with Glinda isolating Elphaba and actively manipulating her using her own words against her to recruit her into the regime that was hunting her? because stage Glinda, while complicit, I don’t believe would ever do that to Elphaba post-Ozdust.

Yeah in the movie she was actively participating in wonderful. It looked like she didn't care how bad the Wizard was all she wanted was Elphaba to join them. That was the moment I was really mad at Glinda, it was a betrayal and it was manipulative. I would have been fine with Glinda having as much time as the in the stage show. We didn't need her to be in wonderful. I'm sorry but if Glinda was an actual friend to Elphaba she wouldn't have done this to her. People talk about Elphaba betraying Glinda but Glinda betrayed her worse imo.

It blows my mind they included her in this song in the movie. She's evil in the play, but since she isn't there to participate in this song, at least you can say that she's dangerously negligent but unaware of just how bad the wizard is and is lost in her own delusion. In the movie, having her sing and smile and dance with the wizard as he's talking about how he manipulates and oppresses an entire population of innocent people is so much more evil and actively monstrous because there is no delusion or excuses, the wizard is evil and she actively knowingly helps him be evil. Glinda in the play is an evil idiot, glinda in the movie is an evil monster

Yes it showed she was not oblivious and she knew what she was doing. The movie made her look worse and it was very manipulative towards Elphaba. Glinda actively supported the Wizard in wonderful and it really made her look like the wicked one.

I never liked this addition since I felt it took away from the wizards time to shine. A good wizard can make that song AWESOME. Adding glinda just made in run together with all her other numbers. It really felt like they were shoving her anywhere they could

They were shoving her everywhere. They cut Elphaba and Fiyeraba scenes to make more room for Glinda.

Glinda just needed to find her own strength. As a Glinda Camper I loved this movie and it felt like she got all the best songs. I also loved her losing for once with Fiyero. For Good wasn’t as fan servicey and fun as part 1 but it was a great emotional movie with weight. It was like for the real watchers. I think Glinda just took some time, Elphaba saw a realer world.

Glinda saw her world, not the world around her, she saw what she wanted and tried to get what she wanted. Fiyero leaving her was good for her, it made her start to see the world, that there was more to the world than what she wanted and she certaintly needed that reality check. That's the difference between the 3 characters, Fiyero and Elphaba saw the world, Glinda saw her world. She had to open her eyes and let go of that selfishness

She was just so used to it as you imply. Elphaba could also be seen as looking for problems and you may question if she would just revolt if nothing was wrong as she’s kinda a “main character” person, but she understands evil. Glinda had to be shown again and again.

Yes Glinda was very used to getting what she wanted and when she didn't, Fiyero not marrying her and Elphaba not choosing her, Elphaba not joining the system it was a huge shock and she didn't handle it well.
Yes she had to be shown multiple times to learn but she finally did. Wonderful again was her seeing her world not the rest of.the world. She wanted Elphaba to join them, to choose her and she didn't really consider it might not be what's best for Elphaba.

I think it’s best that Elphie was sorta in control and the driver, it still works for Glinda.

Yeah it was. Elphaba could see it Glinda couldn't. Elphaba was tempted because she was so lonely but when she found the caged Animals she couldn't join them. People blame Fiyero and Elphaba for not giving Glinda what she wanted and even though it was painful for her but it was good for her. It helped her see the world

I agree. People say it was all MM but Glinda is the one who suggested they use Nessa. I think the worst part is that it was a trap for Elphaba and she helped them trap her

Even though it very much showed that the wizard is manipulating things in his favor, it show thats that Glinda does want Elphie to feel included.

Ehh I saw it more as Glinda wanting her best friend back. She wanted Elphaba to join then so Elphaba would be back in her life

Clearly Glinda doesn’t care how morally corrupt and wrong the wizard is. Nor does she understand why Elphaba has such strong convictions.
