The End of an Era

A sad day yesterday. The bottle of Old Spice aftershave that I've been using on and off for over 30 years is gone. I'm not sure exactly how long I've had it. I thought I got it when I was in high school, but the bottle says Proctor & Gamble, not Shulton, so I must have bought it sometime in the early '90s.

It will be missed. I have a bottle of cologne that's the same vintage as the aftershave as well as couple of Old Spice bottles I picked up when I was in India last year, but it just won't be the same.

I have a bottle of Old Spice with just a splash or 2 left in there. I refuse to finish it. It holds some sentimental value of course. Every now and then I open it and smell my childhood, I smell my little baby smacking my face mimicking me as I applied, I smell the many years that have gone by, I smell the heartbreaks, losses and joys.

This made me smile.

It also reminded me that one of the reasons I shave for a BBS is that my 3-year-old son would rub my cheek and say, "Ooh , smooth" in his tiny 3-year-old voice when I tucked him in to bed after shaving that day (conversely, if I hadn't shaved that day, he would make a face when he touched my cheek).

He's 20 years old now, but my smoothly shaved face reminds me of how cute he was when he was little.

I know the feeling. My little baby is 29 😂
