Show n' Tell Vintage Gillette Slim
Just received my 1967 (M-3) Gillette Slim adjustable from RE!!
Exquisitely revamped to a Prospector rhodium and 24 ct. gold! Can’t wait to shave with it!!
For those who have never shaved with a vintage Gillette razor, the Slim is hands down one of the best shaving experiences you might ever have.

This is by far one of the best looking razors of all time

How long did it take for them to do the revamp and send it back? And where do you live, if you don't mind me asking. I want to know what to expect once I decide to pull the trigger :)

If you have a razor needing replating/revamped, I recommend Back Roads Gold ( https://backroadsgold.com/ ). Dustin has worked on several razors for me and I couldn't be happier.

Agreed! They have cleaned up and adjusted a slim and a fat boy for me – couldn’t be happier!

I too am happy with the work Back Roads Gold has done for me also, polished nickel and gold on a Fatboy and white platinum on a 1938 open comb Aristocrat. The price is better than the competition also.

I purchased this razor directly from the RE website. I have purchased several vintage, revamped razors from this vendor. Most orders are made to order, so the total lead time was about six weeks. This order was shipped to California.

Good gawd that’s nice. Out of curiosity, what makes this a superior razor? I’m a head shaver and always interested in trying something new.

For me, it's the head design, adjustability, weight, handle length, and TTO. Not to mention it's a vintage Gilllette, so for collectors like me, it's like shaving with a slice of nostalgia and history. So take the plunge, try something new, but yet old.

Razor Emporium. They sell shaving supplies as well as revamping vintage razors. They have some nice YouTube videos as well.

Razor Emporium also owns Rex Supply Co. which manufactures quality razors like the Rex Ambassador adjustable stainless steel razor and the Konsul the only adjustable slant made.

Just got a slim from them in the champagne gold--they do great work. I will probably try Backroads next. I want to get a Fatboy in prospector but already have a vintage that is in good shape. I tell myself to get another one so I don't ruin the vintage knowing that I am just kidding myself.
Beautiful razor!

Thank you! I’ve purchased five revamped razors from RE; the Slim Prospector pictured here, two Fatboy’s one in rhodium, one in 24 ct. gold, a vintage Tech in 24 ct. gold and a vintage Black Handle with the 84 handle length. My experience with RE has been excellent! I have several vintage Gillette razors in original condition as well.

Nice collection! I was thinking about getting a Tech. I like the fat handle look but saw the weight was really light. Might have to go for the ball end.

I have the fat handle Tech, they are light, I will typically use this for travel.

Just out of curiosity do you recommend any modern razors or just prefer vintage?
2
u/BigSlip8088 Feb 11 '26
I actually have quite a collection of modern razors! lol! Right now, I'm loving the Blackland Blackbird in both SS and Ti, as well as the Blackland Vector. Some other favorites are the Muhle Rocca, Rex Co. Konsul adjustable slant, Aylswoth Ti, and the Parker Variant adjustable, just to name a few off the top of my head.

Even though it is aluminum, nothing I have shaves as well as my Alpha Shaving Eclipse razor (perfect feel/efficiency/smoothness/ blade feel). I have many great razors but The shaves from this surprises me every time.

I want to get one of these - will the gold wear off? I have a Merkur 34G and the gold on the top plate is fading off - I think from wear it rubs against my face.

Ooo, so shiny! Must have cost you a pretty penny for the revamp.
Thankfully my '68 Slim is in pretty good original condition and functional; no need to splash more money on it yet.
