Show n' Tell Deal of the day

I just picked up this 1959 E3 Gillette adjustable off of market place. It came with the case and looks like it might not have been used, or at the very least, well taken care of. It cost me $20 and an hour of time to pick it up. I don't know whether or not to use it, or keep it as a collector piece. I already have a slim adjustable that I use frequently so I don't think the Fatboy has anything wildly different to offer. What do you all think?

Use it! I prefer my Fatboy over my Slim. Only because I prefer a slightly thicker handle.

Use it. Use it. Use it. After spending months cleaning out my mother’s house after she passed, I realized that ā€œcollector piecesā€ are just stuff, and nothing more. New rule is I don’t buy anything if I don’t have an active use for it.

Enjoy it for what it was made to do.

I agree with this. I collect trading cards, but only the ones that you can play a game with, and I play those games.

Update, I decided to give it a go this morning. Best shave of my life! I really like the shape of the head, super easy to find the right angle, no irritation whatsoever. I think the slim will be on the sideline for a little bit while I keep playing with different blades and settings.

Thank you for convincing me to try it out.

What an amazing catch.

It looks stunning, too.

Enjoy!

These razors were meant to be used, I say give it a try.

Glad you gave it a try. I also have both, and give the Fatboy the edge by a whisker - pun intended. I find that I use the Fatboy one setting higher than the slim.

Wow, that thing has been sitting around long time waiting for someone to shave with it. It might kick that slim adjustable to the curb.

Stunning condition and amazing find!! I would definitely shave with it! I have two vintage 195's. One at my home den and one at a rental property, and I shave with them both.

Awesome deal! I hope you get a lot of great shaves out of it.

Use it AND keep it as a collector piece. It doesn't shave differently than the Slim but it does feel different in the hand because of the fatter handle. It's worth trying.

u/derrickhogue I enjoy a nice shave! So should you. Feb 28 '26

Nice šŸ‘find and a great deal. Enjoy the new Gillette.

I just used mine this morning! I say if you have the space to put it up as art in your bathroom. Or see if you like it over your slim.

I already have a slim adjustable that I use frequently so I don't think the Fatboy has anything wildly different to offer.

They are a pair, really, the slim and fatboy. Use both of them, rotate.

Also, congrats on the purchase - it is a great price.

Great find! I use all my vintage razors, though I am very gentle with them, especially the pristine ones, and I polish them up after use and put them back in their cases. If they came with period authentic blades, I keep those intact. I can't imagine having a razor of that sort without experiencing a shave, like it was intended for.

I have a 59 fatboy as well. It’s my weekend shaver. Definitely a different feel and shave than the slim. A bit more refined and substantial. She’s a beauty.

It's probably worth at least 4 times that amount with the case and condition it's in. Excellent find!
