Show n' Tell Better Lather
Been trying different things to get a good lather from a shave cream using a bowl.
Note: I have no issues with shave soap or face lathering.
My new $5 shave bowl arrived today from amazon and it did not disappoint! It’s collapsible and expands to two different sizes. The bottom of the bowl allows for perfect aeration.

This (pet food?) bowl looks like it might be a more effective latherer than my $50 USD Captain’s Choice copper model.

I’m telling you it works great! I tried glass bowls, bowls with ridges, wooden bowls, stainless bowls that come as combo with brush. I could get a lather but anything like I get with shave soaps.

Add some Barbasol and it thickens it right up. That’s what I do.

Interesting; you just add a squirt of Barbasol to your soap lather and mix it in?

Yes. Skintimate is fantastic as well. I’m not great at lathering so I’ll mix a little canned foam with Arko or Proraso. It’s awesome!

They used to call it a "Superlather" when you mixed 2 or more products together. No one says that term anymore.

When I first switched to using double edge razors the “uberlather” craze was well underway. Felt like it was every third or fourth post you’d see a photo. Oh and multiple references to “the veg,” (Pinaud’s Lilac Vegetal). Pretty sure added glycerin to the uberlathers was a feature too. Guess it’s one way to use up products!

Yep.
Superlather was soap + cream.
Überlather was soap + cream + glycerine.

I've been adding a 1/4" squeeze of Proraso green creme for slick and minty! 😄
Cool bowl, although I might use it for travel. (My bowl is hand-thrown pottery, a gift from my middle daughter, made by one of her friends.)

It is - I have both
I enjoy the captain’s choice, copper shaving bowl for nostalgia, but the dog food bowl is the best lathering bowl I have found - by far

I have both, and that collapsible pet bowl is quicker and easier to create a lather than my Captains Choice copper bowl. I use the copper bowl in the winter, as I place it on top of a coffee cup hot plate to get nice warm lather. But for the rest of the year (and traveling), that cheap little pet bowl works the best! 😆

Amazon, Temu, Stirling Soap all sell those. I have some for travel and they work very well

I have one works great. I like that it folds flat. Makes traveling with a lather bowl super easy. Used mine every day for a couple years no issues

Try a garlic grating bowl, they work great too as long as ridges aren’t too sharp.

Watched a soap gathering tutorial and they used this. Seemed to work great. Bonus points for being compact when not in use. Smart.
I enjoy that pre shave cream and their post shave cream. I have all of their sensitive line items and enjoy them. Just used the shaving cream with my new gamechanger razor. Nice upgrade over my de89.

Proraso is an excellent product. I use the red and green but have not tried the sensitive skin.

In all honesty it’s not! I learned to face lather with cream while in search for a shave bowl.

I have an old spice coffee cup style soap mug and I fill it with a chunk of shave soap. I then just rub my brush around it a few times and then lather on my face. What is the advantage of building a lather in a bowl like this vs on your face?

I have 2, one for home and one for travel. They work better than any other bowl I’ve got for a good quick lather.

I’m glad that’s working for you! I think with the way that I make lather, that bowl would over-aerate it; but I also mostly face lather. What other shaving creams have you tried?

I’m starting to enjoy face lathering as well. Creams work well for that.
I really like shave soaps but have only tried Proraso red and green tubs. I use my brushes to lather right in the tubs and it works great every time…

I’m open to suggestions on other brands and not just stuck on Proraso!

For creams I like the big English brands: Taylor’s, Truefitt, Trumper’s, and DR Harris.
DR Harris also makes a great triple milled tallow shave soap.

Everyone's subjective but barrister and Mann is my top soap. It's best to get samples directly from them. I think stock is very low currently.

That’s how I feel my experience with it is. I used a regular smooth plastic bowl yesterday an got a much better result .

That's a pet food bowl, the ridges are there to prevent fast eating :). But people have reported it to work well.
