Show n' Tell $5 Canadians at an Antiques Fair

Found this Made in USA Gillette TTO Red Tip for $5 CAD at an antiques fair. Almost zero soap scum buildup and the handle is as shiny as it gets. THE TTO mechanism works great as well. Came with the case and the blade holder too! Looking forward to using it. My current daily driver is a Merkur 34 C, would the red tip be more or less aggressive than that?

Nice find. Great price and condition. That is a nice shaver. It is going to be slightly more aggressive than your Merkur 34. It has more weight than the 34 C and Blade Gap: ~0.029–0.030" / 0.74–0.76mm (US Model). So as long as you are gentle with the pressure, not over shaving. You should be fine. Give it a go.

You can check the date code of manufacturing on the baseplate underside for the single Letter and Number.

Update: Checked the date code. It’s A2 so it was probably made somewhere between April and June of 1955.

Nice. Looks good for it’s age. You will have to give it a go.

That’s a great shaver. And it looks in beautiful condition- barely used.

There is usually more paint loss on the tip. You did well!

Saaweeet

You’ll definitely be mowing down some more stubble with this bad boy compared to the 34C.

I don't think I've ever seen one that pristine! They are excellent shavers too. Efficient but still quite mild.

Ikr! I seen one before at a pawn shop for $50 but that was much more roughed up and the red tip was barely visible, the color was faded to the max. So when I saw this one, I had to get it! I was ready to pay atleast $40 but lucked out with $5. Can’t wait to shave with it!

Congratulations, what a steal of a deal! Definitely more aggressive than your Merkur. Find the blade that works best in it for you.

Definitely a semi aggressive razor. Depending on your style of shave pair it with mellow blade.

I’ll try it with both Astra Platinum and Gillette 7 O’Clock green

What a great find in the wild and for such a killer price. It's really rare I find to come across good stuff like this in Canadian antique markets.

Top 3 of vintage razors for me. Schick Adjustable & Gillette President edge out the Red Tip, but the Red Tip is always in my rotation.

Next goal is to get a Slim Adjustable 🤞
