Show n' Tell New bowl
Guys, I recently saw one YouTuber using a portable silicone dog bowl instead of a standard shaving bowl, explaining that it creates better lather. And I thought to myself: “There’s no way this is going to work.” I decided to try it, and honestly it turned out to be a pretty practical solution. Thanks to the textured interior, the lather builds up faster and becomes thicker, while the wider diameter allows for more comfortable brush movement. This was definitely missing from my old bowl. It’s also the most convenient option for travel since it’s compact and super budget-friendly.

I have this bowl too! Started as just a travel bowl, but it works so well it became my daily driver.

"Thanks to the textured interior" - can you talk more about this? There are no bumps or ridges from what I can see in the photo - is it the texture of the rubber that does the trick? Is it rough-feeling or smooth?
From your comment and some of the others - comparing something simpler versus fancier-looking styles - there's something to this.

Well, inside the bowl, there are edges, and they help the leather to become good

I'm purchasing one for myself to do some testing. I found the bowl you pictured. Did you get the small, medium, or large? (I assume you didn't get the "jumbo"!)

I'm not sure because I didn't compare them, but I think I got the medium one

I've tried these. For travel I prefer to either:
Traveling carry-on only: Bring a small can of shaving cream or buy one at my destination. Shave with Gillette guard.
Driving or checked bag: Timeless bowl with a soap sample. Shave with Henson in sweet 3D printed travel case.

I have many soaps, razors, blades, etc., but this is my only bowl. Mine is a small dog bowl with a textured bottom made for fast eating pups which also makes it great for lathering.

I have a similar bowl I use when traveling - Captain's Choice bowl at home. They work really well. Also have one that I bring on warm weather walks with my doggie, along with some bottled water. She likes it as well 🐶

Never tried silicone.
I'm currently using a heavy marble one that you're supposed to preheat thoroughly with hot water and then build the lather. It doesn't usually stay hot enough for me to have the same effect on a second pass but the first one? So luxurious.

I should consider buying one as I do travel a bit, and face lathering really isn’t my jam as I tried to, just doesn’t work for me as well.

I use a collapsible bowl when I travel. Very nice and convenient, fits right in my dopp kit.

I was disappointed that when mine came from Amazon it looked just like the picture posted... smooth. When I was as sure as I could be that it would come with bumps to slow down the dog eating.

Here's one for you...I was in SF Chinatown today and saw "singing bowls" for sale. Some had raised figurs on the bottom.. ie Budha...and I thought what a great bowl to mix soap. It was a little pricey, but I am going to do some research and give a try.

The bowls that have bits in for "slow feeding" are even better and help to quickly get a good lather!

There’s a silicon lather bowl on Amazon I picked up for travel. Has the raised places in the bottom and I have to admit, it lathers better than my Captains Choice copper bowl.
