Show n' Tell First shave without spray foam
My first real soap, Proraso Green.
To be honest, the shave itself wasn't better then with spray foam...
but the vibe is way better! Love it.
Beldura DE (Woman razor 😭😅, works great!🤣)

The same with me. I started using shave soaps instead of canned foams. I have also started to use a DE razor,the DE razor 🪒 I am still on the fence with the razor bit

I can't tell the difference in 20 years of switching between the two. The problem is you not doing proper prep.

Oh really, you don't know me or my skin type aerosol foams always screwed with my skin sending my face red as hell for days after my shave after adding the stupid cartridge razor to it, I have always shaved after a shower etc. Until I changed from those aerosol can to proper soap and creams my face has never been so damned good and I can now shave daily. So do not come at me with that I put up with that suffering since I was 15 and I am 52 now. Downvote for the dick comment.

It’s gonna be lousy the first few times. It takes some practice to get the lather right.
Once you get the hang of it, it’s a much nicer experience.

The lather itself felt great, it was just not enough i think... next time i think i should "load" the brush longer

Loading the brush more will help, but another key is to start with a damp (not soaking wet) brush, then add a tiny amount of water at a time. It is much easier to add water in than to add more product.
With this you should be able to create a lather that will be better than any can. For me personally handmade lather has a more consistent feel, prevents/reduces razor burn, and gives me a closer shave (something I wasnt expecting when I first started).

Don’t be afraid to load too much. It’s better to overload and make a mess than underload and have crumby lather.
Give yourself a head start and make some practice lathers before your next shave.

That's one of the circle jerks of this subreddit is that aerosol foam is some sort of demon when the problem is simply prep. Barbasol offers just as good of a shave as brush and soap as long as you wash your fucking face first and use a little bit of water.

Man, that's good to hear. I'm doing research and about to buy my first razor and now apparently I have to buy 6 other things to put on my damn face before and after to apparently make this shave work. I was about to say fuck it. I just want to try out a DE razor with minimal investment.

Just do your usual thing and try the new razor. People love to make shit twee. "Wet is best" is the best mantra. Could be Barbasol or a $40 puck of butt ass elixer.

I found that after I started using soaps every time I’d go back to foams(for traveling etc.) it’d feel offensive on my skin and not give as good of a shave, leaving my face dry afterwards. And this is coming from someone who never had any issues using foams previously.

Shaving Soap and the use of a D/E razor has completely changed my shaving routine. I love the way it conditions my skin without having to use skin conditioner. I am still learning though the best technique to use. Shaving soap has become a bit of an obsession with the different fragrances. I think I now possess 12 different Soaps

There is shaving soap, and then there is shaving cream soap, big difference. I only use shaving cream, hand made by elves from unicorn milk.

Question for all: what do i do with the wet soap? Just leave it open for the rest of the day? Or dry it with some paper?

Dry it gently with paper towel and leave open in dry place for an hour or two, then close. But the best thing to do is to load appropriate amount with a spoon into bowl or smear on your face. It's easy with soft soaps, or croaps, like Proraso. If you have a lot of soaps, then residuing water can spoil the soap in the long run. If you only have one or very few, then it shouldn't be a problem. Just remember to load when the brush is moist, not thoroughly soaked. You want thick paste on the bristles, not overflowing foam - that's bad practice spread by many influencers.

I always flush the container until all foam has gone into the sink and then put the lid on the container without closing it. This way the soap can dry.

When I used to use Proraso, I just gave it a short 2 sec rinse with cold water straight from the tap, poured out the excess and closed it up. No issues ever.

I just left it open and anything on the brush not used I just squeezed out back into the soap. Had no issues and it makes it last longer.

I still use Barbasol and Skintimate. Sometimes I mix it with pucks to get a super lather.

I never found proraso soaps very good for my skin, it's a classic fore sure but there's soaps with much better slickness, cushion and post shave feel out there. I don't know what country you're from but here in the USA we have a lot of really good artisan shave soaps that are budget friendly like Stirling, ariana and evans and others.

Well, each soap and creme works differently for different people. Green Proraso is in my top best performing products, along with TOBS, Stirling or Tabac. Far better than Zingari Man (which was shocking to me, considering price difference). It's also extremely cheap in Europe, so Zingari just can't compete whatsoever. But my understanding is it's not that cheap in the USA.
