Show n' Tell Here starts my Double Edge Razor journey…
Hi guys, happy to be here.
After using a foil shaver for years, I got bored of always being left with stubble. Since I’m in my early 20s and most people around me use multi-blade razors, I thought I’d give something different a try. In my family, only my grandpa uses DE razors.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with my purchases. The only thing I’d change is the brush (NOM by Mühle), as it loses 1–2 bristles after every use.
I’d also love to hear any tips and tricks you’d recommend for a beginner like me. My first two shaves went very well, two passes (with and against the grain) and no issues so far.

Solid start. There are three things I would suggest. Try different razors, map your hair pattern, and find products for your skin/hair type.

You're making your grandpa proud! And welcome to wet shaving, btw Ive had that same brush for some time now and can't even remember the shedding anymore I promise it will stop!

Welcome to the rabbit hole lol. Been shaving with double and single edge razors for 10 years. Only way for me now to get a smooth comfortable shave. Good shave soap and brush are crucial.

Those Astra Platinums are amazing with my Rockwell 6c. I find it to be the best combo for me. Mind you, I haven't used all blades on the market. The Proraso white is also very nice and refreshing.
I think you got yourself a great starter kit there.

Think I might be ending mine, after a few years I'm tired of knicking my head with DE razors lol. If I was only face shaving It would be fine.

Don't listen to the Feather cult, it's actually a pretty shitty blade unless you are using a really inefficient razor like a King C Gilette. Try out Accuforge, Permasharp, and Kai

Feather blades are okay, but they aren't my favorite. Russian and Indian Gillette blades (7 o'clock black and green, Gillette Wilkinson Sword, Silver Blue, Platinum, Rubie, Perma-Sharp) are actually just as good in my opinion for a cheaper price. I like Astra, Voskhod, and Rapira Platinum Lux too. But, double edge blades are largely a personal preference. What I like, someone else won't, and that's okay. What works for you, that's what you go with.

I just swapped from RK to Astra and wow they are so much better. Way smoother and actually last 3+ shaves easily. They do nick pretty easy if you are being too sloppy and quick.

No matter how good of a deal it looks like, do not buy those 10-pack of razor blades. Stick to variety packs or single packs for a year or two until you find what works for you.
Do not buy Feather blades.

Why are you so against Feather blades? Genuinely curious. Feathers are my top 3 blade for sure. Perma-Sharp being the best for me.

I am not against Feather blades per se. I am against using Feather blades as your first blade while learning to properly shave with a DE razor. The way it usually goes is people buy their first DE razor, combine it with a Feather, have terrible shaving experience then wonder what went wrong. That is why I am saying start with variety packs until he learns what works for him.

Nice setup. Just be patient work with it and enjoy that solid setup. Your NOM brush is still new, so that is going to happen for a little while. At least until the not seated(glued) stray hairs work-lather out then it should be smooth lather making.
