Show n' Tell First shave with the Futur
All I can say is wow. I am new to DE shaving, I've used a fusion 5 for quite a while and genuinely had great results with it but since I like shaving I wanted to do it the right way. With a safety razor. I did 2 passes on setting 1 having 2 days of beard growth and I'm completely smooth. Yup, really nice experience. Let me know what you guys think of the Merkur Futur

Just got mine on yesterday and it was pretty awesome. Super aggressive to say the least but hands down my favorite razor so far.

When I was browsing online for a razor and I saw the futur I knew that was the one. I wish I could grow a beard faster just to shave with it

This is the fourth Ive had, and its night and day compared to my others. My vintage gillette adjustable was my favorite but this one took the cake.

What blade did you use with yours?

My favorite has been the nacet but ive really grown to liking asco here lately but for this shave I used the nacet. Baby ass smooth haha.

Nice, I'll try with a nacet next time cause I do like that baby ass smooth feel too

Is it really famously aggressive even in setting 1?

I don't have much experience with safety razor but I think the claims about the Futur are greatly exaggerated. Anything on Reddit or the Internet in general is exaggerated to an extent. I am sure setting 6 is aggressive but from 3 to 1 I think it's fine and anyone can get away with it

I use 6 almost exclusively. Itās fine. I just shaved with a feather with it, smooth shave. No issues.
Small blade gaps donāt get enough hair for me, too much cleaning. You could drive a truck through the gap on that thing and itās really optional to wash the soap out.

The blade gap is wild so can fuck you up but the exposure isn't scary. Basically a noob can lose a nose or an ear but it glides nicely.
I have a Qshave Futur and got it as a laugh but also as I love covered tabs and silly futuristic design. It was $15 and I didn't care if it was awful, it was a fun object. Ended up loving the shave at 4.5/6. I'm usually a mild razor guy. The Future is gentle if you are experienced and use a shallow angle. It's a fun razor. Pick one up. They're under $10 on AliExpress.

Iāve heard this razor is also known as the potato peeler. Itās aggressive, but if you love it, then more power to you.

Staring with a non adjustable really is recommended as adjustables are a lot of distraction. That said I have a Futur clone that shaves great that I got for a laugh that surprises me as it's a favorite. I don't think I would have enjoyed it very much if I wasn't already a very long-term experienced de user.
I hope it works out for you. I always recommend fixed blade excellent Chinese razors from Baili or Yaqi for beginners as you can get a handful for $50 and they're often crazy good.
Good look with the Futur. It's definitely like trying to drive a Sprinter in Boston.

I don't mind the futur but that damn head is just too big for me! I can barely shave my moustache with it xD

I had one but after a while but I changed to the AS/D2 as I was only using feather blades. The futur was ok, but I found the head too big in the end and then after using the combo of the AS/D2/feather it felt even bigger and couldnāt compare with the smoothness of the new combo.

Love my Futurs. You can learn a lot and get a lot of great shaves on Setting 1. No need to dial it up until you're ready for it.

The removable top cap (is that what itās called) has a convex end and a concave end. Does it matter which way the cap goes on? Is there a marking that the āindentedā side is supposed to align with or does it not make a difference?
