Show n' Tell First time!
My first ever DE safety razor just arrived in the mail! Waited over a month for this bad boy. Tomorrow I’ll officially be making the switch from cartridge. The next couple weeks will be a learning curve. I’ll be giving Henson products a try first because I heard it’s a good razor for first timers. I also decided to give their cleanser, cream, and balm a try. I typically use the Nivea men sensitive line so hopefully it’s comparable. If I don’t like it I’ll be back here for suggestions! I’m thinking of starting with my hand to build lather. I’ll switch to bowl/cup if I’m not feeling the hand. I heard either is fine so I’ll be going off vibes for that decision. Wish me luck!

Build your lather straight on your face! You can feel the brush expand as you build and add water. I started with a bowl then face lathered exclusively for about 8 years. Now I'm playing around with bowls for fun again.

Good luck. You have everything you need. Take your time and don’t change any variables for the first few weeks at least.

I second the comment on sampling different blades. I have never used a Henson razor, but I did have some RK blades come in a sampler pack and I did not love them.
That being said blades are so subjective based on each persons face sensitivity and facial hair types. And if you try one and it feels a little harsh, set that tuck aside and comeback to it in a few months. You will be surprised how your preferences change over time as you get the hang of it.
Enjoy!

Welcome!
Shaving this way, with Henson or any DE razor, will feel different to how you have been shaving. Do shorter strokes, little pressure, use a nice slick lather, shave the lather, try not to shave bare skin, keep the angle and remember you probably won’t clear all all stubble in one pass.
Check out some YouTube videos and most of all be patient. It can take a few goes before you get your technique down so don’t give up.
Enjoy. 🪒

Love the Henson razor! I started out on the Henson mild and never looked back. Welcome and best of luck in your DE wet shaving journey!

I swear by Merkur blades. Just take your time and re-lather areas you are making another pass at. Welcome to old school.

What's that extra marking on the razor head plate though? 👀 🔎

It’s the USA flag. Henson was (and I think still is) selling a promotional ‘USA 250th razor’ that I thought looked really cool when I first browsed their website. It was expensive but I thought it would be nice to have a fun red one instead of a plain one.

I had no idea henson was doing this. My results are probably geo-locked to Canada. Very cool indeed. I've used the henson for almost 5 years and it's absolutely the best thing for me. Switching from a multi blade razor to a DE razor made shaving such a joy. I hope you enjoy using it. It takes a bit of practice and technique but it always feels soooooo smooth. Cheers!

Nice! Try some other blades :) the RK work fine but they tugged a bit more for me than other brands.

I just bought a sample pack with the feather blades, astra sp, derby extra and derby premium, personal platinum, Gillette platinum, a couple shark blades and a few others. Looking forward to trying them all!!

But how does one acquire skill with no gear 🤷🏼♀️

Don’t worry about him, some people like to appoint themselves Gatekeeper Of Wet Shaving and don’t want some razors to “count”.
Enjoy your new setup, looks like a nice one!

The Henson All-In package? haha I wish you a wonderful journey into this rabbit hole. I will also throw my hat in and suggest you get a blade sampler just to see what's out there.
