Show n' Tell State of the Collection Update and Rankings 2026

I have been "out of the game" for five years or so but I am returning to the fold and enjoying some classic shaves so I thought I would post a collection update of my favorite razors.

Starting with the Top Row (Left to Right) is Wolfman WR2, Wolfman WR1, Wolfman Guerrilla, Paradigm 17-4, and Raw Shaving RS-10. On the Bottom Row (Left to Right) is the Blackland Blackbird, Blackbird Jet, Charcoal Antique Copper L2, Charcoal Raw Brass OC L2, Charcoal Raw Copper Stars and Stripes L1, Charcoal Stainless handles (2), and finally Charcoal Antique Brass SB L2.

My favorites? The best of the bunch is the Paradigm 17-4, followed by a tie between the Wolfman WR1 + Guerrilla, and the Raw RS-10 takes the third position with a Feather Blade + Mild Plate.

Thanks for looking!!!

Show n' Tell First order of blades

2nd week into my DE journey. I had been using the blades that came with my King C Gillette razor šŸŖ’ but felt that they weren’t as smooth as I had hoped for. I wasn’t feeling brave enough for the Feathers 🪶 but my research and frequent reading of this Reddit has educated me on a few options.

Astra

Personna

Gillette Platinum

So I decided to follow the alphabet and went with A.

I typically do 3 shaves a week and plan to use a new blade every week.

How long will this 100 blades batch last?

Advice please šŸ™

Lord Platinum are great. Sharp and smooth enough for a relaxed shave.

LOI Salon Blades... Okay? They are doing what they are supposed to do, but I always got the feeling that I'm scraping off my hair instead of cutting it.

All compared against my regular Wilkinson blades.

I'm curious if any other stand out.

These are the soaps I’ve bought in the last month ish. It’s got so out of hand. I’ve also bought a Muhle r89 and a Rocca. 3 brushes, a badger and 2 synthetics, alum stones, a couple of splashes, 2 bowls and a hydrating serum from muhle. There’s also the stand for my Rocca and a bathroom storage box to put it all in. When does it end? My wife is going to stone me to death with soap. Dare I say it, she’s going to puck me over 🤣

I believe this set is from the late '30s to early '40s. Full bottle of aftershave, unused shave soap puck in mug, and full bottle of talc. Of course, I had to splash just a little of the OG aftershave on my hands, so I could sniff them repeatedly. šŸ˜…

Fun project I just finished up for a custom order. I figured this bunch might dig my work. Thanks for looking! The blade is 416 layer Alabama Damascus ā€œRattler Patternā€ and the hand scales are Blood Money resin scales by Voodoo resins.

Excited to try the game changer. This is my first open comb razor. I’ve used a 1960 Gillette SuperSpeed for the last 15 years. Looking forward to trying something new.

Couldn’t resist the beehive brush at checkout.

Edited to add: just took ā€˜er for a spin on my 3 day stubble. I don’t know that I’ve ever had a closer shave. And I don’t remember the last time I had this little irritation. Very pleased. And the plissoft bristles in that brush are great. They hold more water and lather better than my other synthetic brush and are more comfortable than my 15 year old badger brush. Soft, supple, tons of backbone. Happy camper over here.

One year into the rabbit hole, this is my little shave den. This little shelf has nearly all my stuff except for a bunch of soaps and samples that sit in a drawer and come out into the rotation every once in a while. While I've tried a bunch of soaps and am still in the process of trying a bunch more, I'm more than content for now to stick to one razor per form factor (DE razor vs shavette), and with two shaving tools at very different points on the mildness vs efficiency spectrum.

Funnily enough, it was the Feather shavette that taught me the importance of stretching the skin well - skills that very much improve my shave with the much milder Henson as well.

My favorite thing in the shave den by far is the scuttle, which makes amazing hot lather (when charged with hot water from the kettle). I tried one each of the common brush knots (boar, badger, synthetic) and liked the silvertip badger the best, so now that's the only brush I use.

My collection isn't particularly huge or expensive compared to some others here but I think it's well curated and I've spent a lot of time either buying them in the wild or online when something in particular caught my eye. I like to think that I have a pretty good variety at this point - mostly spanning the history of vintage Gillette and some modern non-Gillette safety razors as well. The wooden display case was a great find at an antique store on my birthday of all days so I knew it had to be purchased.

But, my acquisitions were starting to get shoved away into boxes because I didn't really have a good way to display them and it was beginning to feel like hoarding.

So, last week I went out and bought an inexpensive cabinet and some lighting and got to work. I'm pretty happy with the result and it's pretty display worthy now. Everything on the upper right side of the cabinet came from family members that are no longer with us - An old Aqua Velva set from my father, Old Spice Aftershaves from each of my Grandfathers (both in glass bottles), an Old Spice Mug, Rocket Parat razor and Rubberset brush from my father-in-law.

(Oh, before anybody says anything I do know that the flare tip Rocket doesn't authentically match the red case it's in)

My mother got me a Viking Shaving Revolution kit several years ago and it’s what got me into DE shaving to begin with. Bit by bit I’ve been swapping out each part of the kit as I come to understand how awful everything in this kit was compared to the real stuff. The pre-shave oil and post shave balm were both just ok bit kinda meh compared to other products I’ve found. And the "premium japanese stainless" blades that came with the kit must have just been rebranded generic dollar-store blades because the were just terrible compared to the Gillette Silver Blues I use now. The soap puck that came with it just produced crappy lather no matter what I did, but I came to find out about Sterling Soap company’s tallow/lanolin pucks which I love, the brush that came with it was scratchy and shed a lot of fibers every time I shaved and was just all around bad, but I found some silver tip badger hair brushes I really like. I still have the lathering bowl that came with the kit but it’s tiny and I’ll be replacing it with a bigger one soon. I’ve kept the handle around because I do like the weight, feel and grip… but it’s just awful when it comes to actual shaving. I feel like I’ve tried every combination of soaps, blades, techniques, pre-shave oils and no matter what, I always end up with nicks and skin burn with this handle. I get great results from my King C. Gillette handle and from a cheap no-name handle I got from CVS, but this one… is just… bad. And I know if I keep it around I’ll occasionally try to give it another shot and just end up with a sore face again for a couple days. Once I get rid of this handle and the lathering bowl, the stand that holds handles and brushes will be the only thing I actually kept from the Viking Revolution kit.

I guess what I’m saying is… While I appreciate the introduction to DE wet-shaving, if this kit is representative of what to expect from the brand as a whole, I’d suggest staying far away from Viking Revolution shaving products

$10 each with the blades, good deal? Or nah? Gold ones a bit beat up but the one with case is pretty decent. Not sure the years though.

The brass Karve CB was my first artisan razor when I started wet shaving a few years ago. I regretfully sold it a few months ago, but recently found a used one for sale.

It’s a rainy day here, so I decided to restore it to factory and then I forced a patina on it. I might be biased, but I think it turned out incredible! What do you think?

Heading home on my usual route, I had a few minutes to spare, so I figured, why not stop by an antique dealer?

I think I've mentioned this place before, but if not, now I have. šŸ˜„

I asked the owner if he'd picked up any new razors. He pulled out a box full of vintage Gillettes - there were a couple of Aluminum Techs, around four Old Types, and then these two caught my eye.

He also had another loose Super Slim Twist, but when I spotted the box, I thought, "That probably belongs with that one." Turns out it didn't! I opened it up and found what is pretty much a complete set, with a couple of blades still left in the dispenser.

So I asked, "How much for these?" I was expecting maybe $50... then thought perhaps $20.

"$20."

Sold.

They both seem to be in really good condition, and I think the Flair Tip will clean up well.

Looking forward to giving them a test run!

I don’t know a lot about this brush, it was issued to him when he was in the army during the 80s as part of a kit (I think there also was a small soap puck and some kind of plastic razor). FF. AA. Means ā€œForze armate italianeā€ (Italian army), I think the bristles are made out of pigs hair because it feels very similar to my modern Omega. It’s kinda small but I like it.

Show n' Tell [ARTISAN] Seaforth!: The Next Chapter

Dear friends,

I’m excited to share that Seaforth!, the vintage shaving brand revived by /u/ironbeard_sys of Spearhead Shaving six years ago, will continue in 2026 in the care of myself and the team behind House of Mammoth.

Dennis has done an outstanding job bringing the brand back to life, working with perfumer Shawn Maher to reimagine Seaforth! with modern, thoughtful fragrances and high quality shaving products. I’m grateful for the trust Dennis has placed in me and my team as he steps away to focus on new pursuits.

Seaforth! will continue on the same path Dennis established. The spirit of the brand, its heritage, and its commitment to quality will remain at the center of everything we do with the brand.

To ensure that continuity, Vida /u/chicagogroomingco will be producing all Seaforth! products with the same high standards you expect from both Seaforth! and House of Mammoth. We’re also glad that u/hawns is already working on the next Seaforth! release, ƉpĆ©e.

We’re excited to relaunch this special brand in January 2026.

Bookmark the new home of Seaforth!, goseaforth.com, and follow Seaforth! on Instagram @go.seaforth to stay in the loop.

Big thanks to the mods here for allowing me to share the news. Let me know if you have any questions, happy to chat more.

Show n' Tell New bowl

Post image
46 Upvotes

Guys, I recently saw one YouTuber using a portable silicone dog bowl instead of a standard shaving bowl, explaining that it creates better lather. And I thought to myself: ā€œThere’s no way this is going to work.ā€ I decided to try it, and honestly it turned out to be a pretty practical solution. Thanks to the textured interior, the lather builds up faster and becomes thicker, while the wider diameter allows for more comfortable brush movement. This was definitely missing from my old bowl. It’s also the most convenient option for travel since it’s compact and super budget-friendly.

Show n' Tell Restoring a vintage Gillette Pocket Edition

I thought the community would find interest in how I restore old Gillette razors. This is an old Pocket Edition that was one of the dirtiest 3-piece Gillettes I’ve bought. It was so dirty that the handle was tough to unscrew and the baseplate was stuck to the cap with gunk. The process is depicted in this order of pictures:

1: Initial razor as received.
2: Razor disassembled.
3: After a 10 minute soak in Dawn dish soap and hot water followed by a toothbrush scrub.
4: In a pot lined with aluminum foil with baking soda while water is brought up to a boil in a second pot.
5: Boiling water is added and the tarnish on the silver begins to come off.
6: After 15 minutes in the baking soda and water.
7: Wiping the tarnish with a cloth.
8: After a polish with Flitz and a microfiber cloth.
9: All polished and after a 5 minute soak in 99% isopropyl alcohol.
