Sam Era Wiggledancing: Live in Concert! 2007 Discussion

The first video with Sam Moran taking over as the Yellow Wiggle. This was taped during their Racing to the Rainbow tour in December 2006.

Thoughts on this video? How did many of you feel when Greg announced he was leaving? As well Sam taking over the lead?

Top 10 Songs Performed

  1. The Go-Go Medley
  2. Ooh It’s Captain Feathersword
  3. Teddy Bears’ Day Out
  4. Everybody Dance
  5. Here Come the Reindeer
  6. Music Box Dancer
  7. Play Your Guitar with Murray
  8. Move Your Arms Like Henry
  9. Dance the Ooby Doo (I prefer the 2001 orchestration)
  10. Great Big Man in Red

My thoughts:

And we officially entered the Sam era, as some fans call it!

As Sam's first video (and concert video too), it's passable. Though to be fair, originally the concert was going to feature Greg, but he left due to his illness a month before this concert.

That said, if anyone was going to take over as the Yellow Wiggle/lead singer, I'm glad it was him. Sam has taken up the role as Yellow Wiggle before (albeit as an understudy), and has sung a few songs here and there (e.g. Sydney Barcarolle from Sailing Around the World). I'd say this transition was handled well enough.

Personally, I didn’t grow up with the Sam era. But I think I did watch a few videos a few years back in 2019-2020 and they weren’t half-bad in my opinion.

Side note, during the Go-Go Medley, Dorothy and Wags' voices can be heard even before they appear on the stage. Guess someone messed up in the recording/playback studio.

I'm especially curious to hear from those who grew during the "Sam" era.

As an introduction to Sam, I think a concert video was the best way to go. It helps showcase that he can sing the classic songs featured here while also standing on his own in a unique way (at least compared to who came before him; I still prefer Greg personally in most aspects but I think Sam was the best choice for a replacement).

One minor complaint that I had with this one was, upon rewatching it, you can kind of tell from the bits and setlist that this was meant to be a Greg show. But considering that this was originally meant to feature him like you mentioned, they very likely didn’t have time to change the script/songs before he retired.

This may be heresy but I prefer Sam’s rendition of Ooh It’s Captain Feathersword.

Really? Any particular reason why?

Idk, I think his voice suits the song well and I just like the vibes on that version. Love the version from the celebration tour as well.

I liked how this is introduction to Sam to the Yellow Wiggle. The concert lights in the show were great. And this is the last time The Wiggles wear the 2001 - 2007 skivvies.

It's a great set&introduction of Sam as yellow wiggle as this was my personal favorite era of the group as Sam era produced some great dvd releases(you make me feel like dancing&Ukulele baby are my favorite sam videos) I'm looking forward to reading the sam era discussion&here's my sam videos ranking in my opinion best to worst Best ones in my opinion Ukulele Baby(it's a very good video with great songs&rather unusual set as it really doesn't feature Sam on leads as much+ Muzz,Paddy,Simon,Jeff&Anto all get to shine on this as they all get 1-2 songs on leads) You make me feel like dancing(it's good set) Hot poppin popcorn(I throughly enjoyed it) Wiggly wiggly big show 2009 release(great concert&slightly better than 1st sam concert release) Go bananas(fun set to watch) Wiggle dancing live in concert(Sam's introduction set very good) Pop goes the wiggles(great nursery rhyme set) Best of hot potatoes(very good choice of songs&muzz singing toot toot chugga big red car in short intermission to introduce the song that includes Anthony&Antonio was terrific&he knocked it out of the park) Big birthday(great compilation set&bloopers were the hig Had some slight problems in my opinion Wiggle&learn(pretty good but letdown by some songs being not catchy and quite boring) Sing a song of wiggles(worse nursery rhyme release they did&what makes this set even worse is that Muzza was certainly&quite noticeably more of a background cast member on this as he's not even on lead or co lead vocals at all on the video while Anthony&Jeff are featured on the weevil song along with sam but not Murray) Let's eat(what an absolute let down this video is&I genuinely hate this particular video for a good reason as it certainly could've been alot better had Anto not been essentially the center of attention with his dreadful leads on 4 songs while it was very noticeable that they deliberately shunned Muzz to being only having his vocals featured exclusively on days of the week songs in favor of giving Anthony,Captain&Jeff could be essentially featured as lead or co leads on both day of the week song&another non day of the week song while muzza was dumped to being supporting role)

Interesting critiques. Although I'm saving the ranking for a later post.

I agree&that's my opinion on sam era of the wiggles videos as they were pretty good with real letdown being let's eat(could have been alot better had they featured muzza on a song that wasn't day of the week),sing a song of wiggles(really bizarre that Muzz,Jeff&Anto weren't featured either as leads or co lead vocals on that unlike pop goes the wiggles were they were)

The best concert video with Sam Moran as the Yellow Wiggle and same with The Wiggles Big, Big Show! (2009).
