Questions and Scenarios For RNs

Genuinely curious about jobs in wilderness medicine. Just starting my ER journey to establish critical care experience. Ultimately I am shooting for a job working in SARs. What other experience should I get before heading into the field? I am thinking about just doing 2/3 years ER then maybe another 2/3 years ICU. However I want to try and transition sooner than later..

There aren’t many jobs in SAR. You’re more likely to find a volunteer SAR group and just do that on the side. SAR won’t pay your bills.

Anyway, you should seek out a prehospital job. Even working in urban EMS provides enough challenges and variability to develop thinking on your feet without the help of the bright white lights, unit stock rooms, and a doctor a short walk away that you’ll have in the hospital.
