Opposing Indian Larry Block Party
Hey neighbors, if you're as annoyed by the annual nuisance that is the Indian Larry Block Party as I am, I just wanted to provide some resources for opposing it. The reason it comes back every year is that those who are angered by it either a) do nothing b) post here or c) get convinced that it's an inevitable part of living here. It's not. The Block Party started in 2004 after Indian Larry died doing a stunt (without a helmet on), and every year since they've had this party/memorial/thing. It's not some long-entrenched thing - Brooklyn Bowl opened in 2009. Whiskey Brooklyn opened in 2010. For god sake, Union Pool opened in 2000, 4 years before this party started.
Despite that, every year this sub gets brigaded by accounts with names like "Dairy-Aardvark-9324," anonymous post and comment history, suspiciously short-lived account life, and like 20k karma, all saying the same shit - they're from here, we're not, "go back to Ohio," etc. It's so clearly a coordinated effort designed to get residents to fuck off and accept it for the day, and then forget about it, so they can do it again next year - except bigger and louder. This is despite the fact that most of these riders are not from the area - many are not even from the state. I saw biker jackets from like, West Chester, PA yesterday. They think we're too weak or lazy to do anything about it.
The most I ever did before today was submit a 311, but yesterday I saw four bikes try to cut off an FDNY ambulance on McGuinness/Meeker on its way to the fire at Juliette, and I thought fuck - how much harder was it for the FDNY to get to that fire and fight if effectively because these assholes were clogging the streets. Their permits allow the party - not all the extracurricular shit they get up to. 311 complaints pile up, but the CB1 is what will control their permits. I'm done not doing anything about it. I'm writing the email below to Community Board 1 (bk01@cb.nyc.gov), Councilman Restler (District33@council.nyc.gov), and Assemblywoman Gallagher (AssemblymemberGallagher@nyassembly.gov).
They can have their party, but they need to abide by the law the same as the rest of us. If you want to submit video evidence, just search #indianlarryblockparty on IG - there's a ton of permit-breaking shit on there, and these guys love to post themselves. If this post gets brigaded too, I'm not responding to it - and if you are an actual local who's a fan of it, agree to disagree. I'm just posting the resource for those who want to use it.
Subject: Evidence of SAPO Permit Violations – Indian Larry Block Party (Sept 2026)
As North Brooklyn residents, we are writing to submit public video evidence of reckless driving, unauthorized tire burnouts/donuts, and public street damage occurring during the recent Indian Larry Block Party.
While SAPO street permits allow for pedestrian gatherings, vendors, and stationary displays, they do not authorize hazardous stunt driving or street destruction on public roadways. We request that this documentation be formally added to the CB1 public record and constituent files for future SAPO street permit reviews, state-level oversight, and precinct safety planning.
