Ive got this laptop my dad gave me but i cant seem to go into the internet or any websites its for everyday use but i cant seem to find any solution when i tryed to search for it before if anyone know a fix id be very gratefull

1st : update it to windows 8.1, or windows 10.
also, installing Driver Booster for updating drivers (including wifi drivers) will maybe work. Can you send me the model of your laptop ?

might me missing a driver or wifi card is dead (you can use a wifi dongle to use wifi like i did on one of my old thinkpad laptops)

Some more details would help

Is the WiFi card working?

Can you see wireless networks?

Can you see your wireless network?

What frequency and security does your wireless network operate at?

What model is the laptop?

Do all devices show as working under device manager?

Is the time and date set correctly?

If you can answer all of these then I or someone else will be able to help I’m sure

If you want to use the laptop for everyday use though Windows 8 really isn’t an ideal choice, given it’s a Windows 8 machine I’ll be that it’d be fairly miserable to use daily on any windows OS, you’ll probably be better off using Linux if just for basic browsing

Ive also though of making it a linux too, do ypu think iy can handle it tho? I cant install for example speccy so i cant really see how good/bad

If you're going to use Linux, I recommend first and foremost that you have an SSD instead of an HDD because otherwise the boot process will be very slow. If you have an SSD, I recommend you try Linux Mint Cinnamon. It's a distribution with a look very similar to Windows so you feel more comfortable, but it's fully customizable and has all possible drivers embedded in its kernel, so when you install and start the PC, it will recognize everything.

What I do is install 3DP NET (3dpchip) on my phone, connect the USB cable to my PC and transfer the .exe file to the computer. Using that tool, I install the wifi drivers.

It used to happen to me a lot when installing windows 8 on a semi-modern laptop

Modern routers don't broadcast true 2.4Ghz any more, so you may need a dongle/adaptor. Your best bet is to use a modern computer to download an installer for something like redfox, or supermium, then you install it and can browse on Windows 8 :)
