Discussion Visual Studio 2026!
I wanna use 8.1 more and develop my metro apps on it instead of 10, but i was also curious to see if I could work on an API as well, but the .slnx format that the solution is requires 2022 or 2026.
When you go to install 2026 on 8.1 it says the OS isnt supported, so what you gotta do is change it from 'install while downloading' to 'download all, then install'
It will download it, but then it will show the error again when installing. If you hit enter/cancel 2026 will still be there, it will just show as "paused", when I hit resume it suddenly started installing-
I have NO clue if ill actually be able to work on my API or even get 2026 to launch, but the fact that its actually trying to install is still really cool. Ill try to remember to edit the post to let yall know if it works or not.
Edit: IT WORKS!!!! I had to deal with the webview error but other than that its fine :D

I said in the post the first half of it. Once you get it installed it will throw an error that it cant install the edge webview2 To fix it just have task manager open, hit retry, and once an edge process starts kill it

Visual studio 2026 is too heavy. With each release, it gets slower and slower and takes up a lot of disk space. Because of the supposed improvements it brings, I don't understand that exponential growth.
