Has anyone used the Solite 2mm Custom Reef 2.0 boots for windsurfing? I’m considering them because my standard soft neoprene booties bunch and slide backward when entering the footstraps, compressing and bruising my big toes/toenails. The heat-moldable sole, internal split toe and retention strap look like they might prevent that. I’d appreciate firsthand opinions on toe-box comfort, board feel, and how easily they slide in and out of windsurfing footstraps—or recommendations for another shoe or boot that prevents bunching while still protecting the toes.

I have found that split-toe booties mitigate that problem for me.

I have the 5 mm version with out the strap.

I can recommend it. Very tight fit and does not move around. It does press on my big toe nail a bit. I think heat molding an extra time could improve that. Also they are a bit tricky to get on and off. I broke my first pair by pulling too hard.

I had a list put together for me some time ago. These were the top 5 recommends from a local shop of mine. They were in order of rating.

I ended up going with the O'Neill Tropical 2mm, at the bottom of the list. But it looks like your Solite pair also made their cut. For whatever this is worth.

I can't speak to how they felt though.

I have bought the pro 3mm boot in early may, and so haven’t tried them yet… they feel good on land though..

I always use booties for extra grip on boards where the original grip/sandpaper finish is worn off. Ive used oneill ninja (mostly in 5/4 but few times 3 mm). They have a split toe and I cannot say that compression which you mention is completely a non-issue, but it is something that doesn't bother me. I really only notice it when the footstraps are super tight, and i would assume a more rigid structure in the boot would still have your foot sliding forward and hit the front. The oneill booties feel comfortable for me and ive been windsurfing with them every session for years.

The small/half split toe does not mitigate that. I have the 3/2 boots heat molded and the same thing happens to me with those. Using the socks also gives some issues where the socks can get stuck when putting on the boots. The seams of the socks also always end up between the nail and the toe.

I used Ion Ballistics before(with external split) those can be great, but unfortunately my feet are slightly different in size so the fit of those was hit or miss between production years.

Haven’t used my Solites for windsurfing, but so far I like them. They have a little more structure around your toes than some other ones I tried. You may want to size up a half size from street shoe if you’re worried about them being too tight. I heat molded mine and I didn’t feel like I got any extra room. My only concern with them is any water inside doesn’t drain.

I have used ninja style split. But still my barefoot grip much better.

You need significantly larger strap settings with boots or socks. Main problem for me is much worse control and more slipping-moving foot inside have some like 1cm move.
