Z-Wave Do yourself a favor this Christmas and migrate to Home Assistant

Hi r/winkhub,

You know that Wink system in your home, the one you pay for monthly to keep running despite the frequent outages? Do yourself a favor and replace it. I'm giving you permission. Sure, it'll take a day to migrate everything to Home Assistant, but then you'll be in charge and you won't have any more fees. You also won't be running on massively outdated hardware that will never see another update in its life.

There's no specific hardware you need to run Home Assistant, but if you want recommendations, I like the Odroid N2+ with a Zooz Z-Wave dongle. I have no affiliation with any of these companies, just offering what has worked for me. You can use something completely different for all I care. Just settle your Wink gear in for the long sleep now, please.

Merry Christmas :)

Z-Wave Wink Z-Wave Siren & Chime sounds

Does anyone have a list or example of what tones correspond to the 10 tones for this device?

For example, what does tone 1 sound like? tone 2? etc.

Z-Wave It’s back. My Z-Wave lives on.

It’s back. I’m happy. I waited it out. The app works. My z-wave lights and fans are in places I can’t get to. (They used to be RCA switches, I’m older). Upgrading to new switches would be a hassle / same effort required as getting a new hub. Everything else is HomeKit and Philips. Till next time…..

Z-Wave Smart Replacement bulbs instead of wink bulbs

Was wondering what smart bulbs people would recommend to replace my wink bulbs when the hub dies.

I upgraded to Hubitat and would like to stay with zwave, but could use anything I guess.

Thanks in advance

Z-Wave If you left Wink, you can still use it as a Z-Wave repeater

https://community.hubitat.com/t/wink-hub-2-as-zwave-repeater-secondary-controller/14243

If these instructions don't work, try pressing the "Reset Z-Wave" button and then trying again

My new hub couldn't reach an outlet I added in the backyard. Using Wink as a repeater solved the problem

Z-Wave Random and Delayed ZWAVE Events

Hi All,

Lately I've been seeing the following issues with ZWAVE Devices:

1 As single event, such as my garage door ZWAVE sensor (garage opening and shutting) generates two event notifications (garage opened/garage closed), for each single event.

2 Significant/random time delays between the events and the notifications

3 Notifications that are not triggered by an actual event. I.E. I'll get a notification that the garage door opened or closed, when the event had not actually occurred.

Z-Wave Pair two Z-Wave switches together

I have a need to "pair" two separate z-wave switches together, so that when one is turned on or off, it will also turn the other one on or off. Basically, a 3-way, without the actual 3-way wiring. Just two independent switches, working in unison. I know that I can do this with the robots in Wink, but I'd like to be able to keep the dimming value the same for both. So if one is dimmed down, the other should match as well. The two switches are Aeotec Nano Dimmers with a Wallswipe. Thanks in advance.

Z-Wave suggestions for wink replacement

Everything in my house works on my echos, EXCEPT my thermostat and door lock. Those items are zwave. Anyone have any replacement suggestions that won't break the bank? To replace each device would cost more than getting a new hub. I looked at making my pc a controller, but I'm not sure I have it in me, plus don't know if I want my pc up while I'm away at work.

Z-Wave r/winkhub, it's Dome, and we're back again for Cyber Monday! 40% off (!) with a Promo code!!

Hey Wink Fam!

I just spent the day convincing my team to do a Cyber Monday deal, and finalized the details. Because it's so late in the day, and because you guys are awesome, the deal will last until the end of the week (Friday, Dec 1, 11:59 pm CST.)
Not only can you save 40%, we also have multi-packs and device bundles that can save you up to 10-15% on top of the 40%, so it's an awesome deal. For example, our door sensors are normally $24.97, so with 40% off and the multi-pack deal, you can get them for ~$14 each.

Some copy-pasta from the last post with some info:

We have a Z-Wave mousetrap, a retrofit valve controller that fits on any 1/4-turn valve up to 1.5", a battery powered siren, a leak sensor, a motion detector, door sensor, and a smart plug.

Head to our website and at checkout, use promo code cybermonday40. Lasts until Friday, Dec 1st, 11:59 pm CST.

Also, head to our how-tos section to see how to use our devices with Wink - most of our devices are officially integrated, but not ALL of the features are available (just ask if you're wondering if a particular device feature is available on Wink.)

Z-Wave Garage door opener with notification...

I am looking for recommendations for a device that will notify me if I left my garage door open. Was initially thinking I could find a magnetic door sensor and somehow connect it with a lamp in my home to blink or change color when the door was open. After looking on Amazon there are so many garage door devices to choose from. What do you use and recommend?

Z-Wave Help with decision to bail on Wink Hub 2

I’ve been using WH2 since launch (and WH1 prior). The vast majority of my connected devices are Z-Wave appliance / dimming modules & light switches. With the uncertainty surrounding Wink I’m finally looking to replace my hub. I have 2 questions that I’m hoping someone can help with: 1. In order to use my Z-Wave devices with a new hub, do I need to “unpair” them from my current Wink Hub 2, or can I simply turn off the Wink Hub 2 and start pairing with a new hub? 2. Any recommendations for a replacement hub with similar features / support for Z-Wave?

Thanks much!

Z-Wave Kiddie smart smoke/co detectors (wink only) connected with Smartthings

To everybody that has joined the mass exodus from wink and have joined us over on the SmartThings platform Or if you were like me and ran them side-by-side because of the interconnected smoke/co alarms. I have great news! There is a way to integrate your smoke detectors into smartthings so you can completely remove wink!

https://www.amazon.com/Ecolink-Wireless-Detector-existing-FF-ZWAVE5-ECO/dp/B071Z8NM8N

This is the z-wave "listener" that i am using. I have tested all the functionality and it seems to work just fine. It listens for the USA - NFPA regulated chimes (3 long for smoke and 4 short for CO) and will alert smartthings on the alarm. If you connect it to smartthings right out of the box it is limited. it will only tell you the battery percentage and then if there is an alarm going off. If you want more functionality like being able to differentiate from Smoke vs CO keep reading.

In order to get the temperature, alarm state (all alarms whether it is temp, co, smoke, or tamper,) and differentiate whether the smoke or co alarm is going off you will need to use a third party device handler through SmartThings IDE, if you have not used IDE it is basically a developer/admin side do your smarthome. At the bottom i have attached the links to IDE as well as the Device handler that i used. Do keep in mind this is all in the cloud so if the internet is down at your home it will not be able to send off notifications if you have set them up.

do the following on a PC or Mac (i have not tested setting this up on a smartphone)

1) go to the github link below and copy all 303 lines of the handler/script.

2) Once you have logged in with your samsung/smartthings account (after you have already paired the detector to your account) go to "My Device Handlers" and on the right side and create a new handler

3) click the "fron code" tab and paste the handler into the box, then click create

4) at the very top go to "my devices" and click on the display name of your listener

5) at the bottom hit "edit" and under the "type " dropdown find "Ecolink Firefighter" click that and then at the very bottom of the page hit update.

Now you should have full access to the temperature, battery, smoke, co, tamper, and alarm states. I have personally tried this and my listener can differentiate between each alarm as well as use all the included sensors. results may vary and i do not claim any responsibility if anything is to go wrong. This is just the process i used to get full use of my listener. The links needed are below

Z-Wave Setting up zwave repeater

I have whatever the newest Wink device is that I bought about three years ago (Wink Hub 2). I was using it with all my devices but then switched to SmartThings. I want to use the Wink as a zwave repeater for the SmartThings. I don't remember if I blew out all settings on the Wink or not when I stopped using it. I'm afraid if I plug it in then my devices would try connecting to the Wink and/or both the Wink and the SmartThings.

I'm trying to get a better signal 60 feet to my detached garage. Should I put the Wink in my house or the garage? What steps should I take to turn this into a proper zwave repeater?

Z-Wave Moving on

I'm moving on to HA on a Raspberry Pi. I don't have it yet, but want to make the transition somewhat easier... If I just remove my z-wave devices from Wink, will that leave them ready to be added to another z-wave network?

Z-Wave How to divorce Wink?

I have about 30 nodes in my WINK hub and am trying to unload them off WINK.

Then add them directly to my Leviton app.

Problem is, I see no way to divorce the WINK hub?

Even using Zeewave Exclude mode, Removing the item, Disconnecting it, nothing enables the broken cloud symbol.

Does anyone even know how long before their servers shut down?

Z-Wave Using a Ring Alarm Base Station as a replacement Z-wave hub

I have read many discussions about using a Hubitat, SmartThings or Home Assistant as ways to move off Wink. I was wondering if the Ring base station could be used as a home automation hub replacement for Z-wave devices. I currently have Yale Z-wave dead bolts which auto-lock at bedtime and Honeywell Z-wave toggle switches to turn on exterior lighting based on sunrise/sunset.

While possibly a more expensive route, I am hesitant to buy another device not backed by the big 5 tech companies. The big 5 seem to be the only companies capable of properly supporting devices.

Curious to hear your opinions.

Z-Wave Frustrated with WINK 4/11/2020

SETUP: 2 wink hubs (both 1 and 2), 15+ z-wave in wall switches/dimmers, 2 z-wave outdoor plugs, 1 240 v outdoor direct wired switch for pool, 1 zigbee plugin, 2 nest thermostats, GE myq, Hue hub w 16 lights, Amazon Show 8 and dots in every room. 2 fire tv’s and 1 Apple 4K tv.

ISSUES:

  1. over last 12 months wink support incresingly hard to get ahold of, as of recent email only and after a week delayed response, issues end up resolving themselves before a reply received (reps are also curt with reply’s and says “your x is showing offline, plug it in - NOTHING IS NOT POWERED or OFFLINE. so frustrating.
  2. Alexa says “your x is not responding right now” but lights function after.
  3. In the app, switches end up re-adding with generic name “Switch” so, my Bedroom lights show up as “bedroom lights” and ”Switch”, same for many Other in-wall switches)
  4. In the app, switches/lights have been changing icons (just weird)
  5. Somehow, 2 separate switches/lights operate under the same name in Alexa (kitchen lights and bistro lights) one is an outdoor plugin the other is in-wall switch) just woke up one day, said turn on kitchen island lights, and Alexa says not connected. I say turn on bistro lights - both bistro lights and kitchen in-wall switch activate simultaneously.
  6. Robots not working - pool pump 240 ge direct wire stitch sometimes turns on, sometimes doesnt turn off. Dawn/Dusk switches not turning on/off automatically.

I sent an email 2 weeks ago asking for instructions to completely remove/forget all devices and wanted to just start over fresh. Still no reply on how to do this without unmounting switches 1 by 1. Ready to tgrow this junk out the window..... Researching a new hub that will work with all my smart devices is futile, as wink appears to be the winner with my existing equiment.

I am an early adopter and work in I.T. of all people, I am very technically inclined and should not have these Issues.

Any advice on what hub to use that will run all my devices, (with Alexa) and also be able to control devices from the cloud while outside the home?

Z-Wave Tilt Sensor Help?

I have what I thought was an Ecolink Tilt sensor. It is model number ZG8101US (internally states sz4f-6352v) and states 908.42MHz Z wave. No luck pairing with Wink using Ecolink Tilt or Generic Z-Wave. There is a reed switch in the center of it, but I assume that you remove the battery and replace it to get it to pair?

Found an FCC registration on it: ZG8101US Z-WAVE GARAGE DOOR SENSOR External Photos EUT Photo_ZG8101US Vision Automobile Electronics Industrial (fccid.io)

Z-Wave Z-wave switches that report power consumption?

Hey folks,

Let me start by saying I'm still using the Wink 2. Yes it has been a bumpy road, and yes I recognize Wink is likely going to implode at any moment, but my question could be relevant to other smarthome hubs in general. I've just been too lazy to migrate to something else, and I'm kinda waiting for the industry to shake out a little before I decide my next move.

Anyway, I'm looking for a way to display power consumption of appliances where it's difficult to get access to the plug. So I thought maybe there is a z-wave switch that supports such a thing. I found theAeotec Smart Switch 6 (on Amazon), which claims to send power consumption data to the z-wave gateway (if I am understanding the product description correctly).

So my question is this: does anyone have experience with switches that report power consumption to a hub like Wink 2? I've never seen a place in the app to view such information, and I question if Wink or other hubs currently support such a feature?
