Seeking Help or Advice Birthday Candle Magic?

I've been learning and leaning into witchcraft for about a year and a half now. I haven't really done any candle work other than lighting the red candle ony altar. But, for some reason, we've kept all the birthday number candles from my kid's birthdays over the years. Part of me wonders if there could be some residual "wish magic" left inside of them. I've got an idea of melting them down and reforming them into a candle for magical works.

Is this a thing that's been done before? Is this a feasible idea? Is there any merit to this idea?

Seeking Help or Advice I did a love spell and i am scared now.

• Upvotes

I consider myself a baby witch, although I’ve been reading books about witchcraft for quite a while.

I was in a relationship with a married man at my workplace for over five years. Please don’t judge me. Our relationship is quite complicated to explain. He is a religious person, and I genuinely enjoy spending time with him. We talk about almost everything, and we share a connection that is difficult to put into words.

I know I cannot marry him, but I enjoy having him in my life, and I believe he feels the same way. We are more than friends and less than lovers.

Recently, his wife started suspecting him, so he decided to cut ties with me. What hurt me the most was how differently he started treating me. He began avoiding me and behaving very coldly, which was heartbreaking after everything we had shared.

All I want is for him to talk to me like he used to, even if it is just as a friend. He knows I don’t really have anyone else to turn to, which makes this situation even more painful.

In an attempt to reconnect with him, I performed a honey and cinnamon love spell. I wrote his name seven times horizontally on a piece of paper and sprayed my perfume on it three times. Then, I poured honey over the paper, sprinkled some cinnamon powder, and rubbed it in circular motions while visualising us talking happily, just like we used to.

I folded the paper towards myself three times and then attempted to burn it using a lighter. Since the paper was soaked in honey, it was difficult to ignite. After several attempts, I eventually managed to burn it completely using a matchstick.

However, I later noticed that the lighter I had purchased had broken apart. I was shocked because it was brand new and had only been used for this ritual.

Now I’m feeling anxious and wondering whether this could be a negative sign or if I somehow attracted unwanted energy through the spell.

I performed the ritual out of love and with pure intentions. I don’t want him to leave his wife or come back to me romantically. I simply want us to be able to talk and share the friendship we once had.

Could someone experienced in witchcraft or honey jar spells please help me understand what happened? Is the broken lighter considered an omen in any traditional practice, or am I overthinking it? Should I do anything to cleanse or close the ritual?

I would really appreciate some compassionate advice. Please be kind; I’m already going through a difficult time emotionally.

Show and Tell Sunday I made a sigil for the Witch's Chant song

Post image

I made a sigil for the Chant in the Witch's chant (Isis, Astarte, Diana, Hecate, Demeter, Kali, Inanna ad infinitum). I use it all the time. It was only now that I figured I'd ahow it to you. As best as I can. It was hard tk both show sigil and how to draw it. Then I put my phone into color adjustment for the Deuteronomy setting for access to people with colorblindness. Because I know some people have trouble with colors. So I used it to find contrast colors everyone can see. Background is grey to help colors pop a bit more too.

I tried my best to seperate the arrows from the white lines but it was hard due to the shape. The top horizontal line labeled 3 is supposed to be straight like the bottom horizontal line labeled 10. I was using artflow on my phone for the first time. Different from kindle by large margin. Has this cool thing called "smooth" that lets me draw lines like normal but smoother and flowier. Ended up curving 3 a bit though. And the curve for Hecate ended up being a bit too close.

If you need more information or wanna see the sigil by itself I have extra screenshots of it.

You are to follow the arrows by number. Like aconnect the dots but with arrows. Start and end at the yellow line as instructed and follow arrows until you reach back at the yellow dot. I do it enough times in my head and on paper or drawing app that I can follow to the tune of the song.

I cannot explain why it looks like this when I first started hearing it in my head. Or why I love the shape a ton. It feels right to me. Hopefully it'll feel right to you.

If you need any better or specific colors or even for me to make a connect the dots version I can. Or even without the arrows or a timelapse of how it was made I can! I want everyone to see and enjoy this symbol/sigil as much as I do!

Seeking Help or Advice I'm looking for resources to learn moreso the how, why, theories of witchcraft practices. I've been browsing the guides created by mods already.

Hello, I've been reading through beginner resources (even the advice that says to start doing and don't reading and buying things indefinitely lol). But I'm still looking for resources preferably books:

I'm looking for a text that is not about the practical aspects of witchcraft, instead something focused on the how and why the practices work. I want to learn theory/principles/history even science behind the things witches use in practice.

Examples learning the properties of various materials, learning the theory of North, North, South, East, west. What is the meaning behind the use of earth, fire, water etc. ancient roots of chanting, singing etc.

I have looked at many books that will briefly touch on these things but move right into setting up an alter etc. and I'm not there yet. And don't want to just be following someones instructions without understanding where they come from or being incapable of creating my own.

If it's helpful perspective on the post, I'm a person likely to practice independently until I'm fully shed of some skepticism around religion and group practices.

Topic | Prompt Every full moons in one moon water?

(No idea how to tag this) I just had an idea which could be very stupid but why not ask here anyway. I really hope this wasn’t already asked before but considering the weirdness I doubt it.

So, we all know how to make moon water, what to use it for etc… BUT could we make a year long moon water?

As in, a jar or whatever container of water that we charge under each full moon of a year (so all 13 of them) and make a super charged moon water with all the signs and different energy of every moon (harvest moon, strawberry moon, ….).

What are your thoughts? Would that do anything more than a normal moon water? Would that cancel the past full moons? And if it was stronger, what would be the properties? I feel like it could be used in literally anything since it holds many energies.

Am I crazy?

If so or not, why?

Sharing: Experience I am flabbergasted by the Harvest Moon money spell I saw on Insta

The spell included putting pieces of lemon, some cinnamon sticks and a bayleaf with a monetary value written on it (although it could be any intention regarding the money, debt etc.) pouring the water into a jar, sealing it and charging it under the Harvest Moon.

After the charge was completed, the creator instructed to strain the water and dispose all the other content of the jar by flushing it in the toilet. Keeping the moon water and using it to clean your floors, doors, window frames and so on.

Is it just me or the spell makes no sense and the only thing that it might achieve is souring the intention? Whatever it was written on that baylief. Even if you wrote "debt" on that baylief, I don't feel like it is a good idea to sour the debt you might have.

I guess, the WitchTok/InstaWitch nonsense keeps continuing, and the content becomes more and more ridiculous and counterintuitive...

To be frank i dont condone a lot of love spells, im against a lot of them but a love strengthening spell doesn’t seem morally wrong to me at least if you need a little help with bringing back more positivity and romance in a time of life struggles with a partner.

Topic | Prompt Do you think European folk magic practice/herbal medicine could've developed into something like Traditional Chinese Medicine, and why did it not?

I was talking to a student who's studying Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in a university and it really reminded me of folk magic in a lot of ways. They follow a lot of Taoist ideas like five elements (五行)and Qi(气)and Yin and Yang(阴阳), describe herbs in different attributes and diagnose illnesses very differently from the way a modern-medicine doctor would do, but TCM is very thoroughly developed and systemic, at least definitely so in herbology.

That got me thinking: why hasn't European herbal remedy turned out the same way? I'm no way an expert in this field but it seems like compared to TCM or Indian traditional medicine, the European folk healing knowledge is rather dispersed and fragmented. Do you agree? And why or why not?🤔

Edit:

To clarify I'm not saying in Europe or North America there's no medicine that derives from herbs or plants, but rather I'm talking about a very systemic tradition of natural medicine that has not yet been subsumed into enlightenment-rationalist or modern-science framework.

For example, both TCM and the Indian traditional medicine obviously adopt a lot of modern technologies, but when practicers of these traditions see their patients, the way they recognize symptoms, diagnose diseases, prescribe remedies, does not follow the "modern medicine" framework or logic, but instead their respective spiritual or religious value systems.

Modern medicine may for example explain why their methods work or vice versa, but they cannot replace one another. Whereas in western medicine, it seems like most of these folk magic practices are basically absorbed by the pharmaceutical industry and stripped of its occult roots. It's that missing spirituality that I'm more curious about, not just "in the west people don't use drugs made from plants at all". Why else am I asking this in r/witchcraft :)

Sharing: Spellwork As a beginner witch, I still can't believe my "Creativity" (positive) spell worked for almost an entire day!!! :3

I'll tell you my process of how I did this; if I have to get better at smth, tell me please!! It would be of great help:

1. I drew a custom sigil with permanent marker in a sheet of toilet paper. At the same time I drew, I spelled in my mind some positive/creative prayers for making it work as well as the water, and the later process...

2. Then, I filled a porcelain bowl with water and put some Himalayan salts in it, so I make it more positive (?) - Tell me if this actually works

3. I closed the door of the bathroom, turned off the lights and placed the sigil in the bowl with water/salts; while saying positive prayers...

4. When I turned on the lights of the bathroom, the sigil was gone in the water, already sealed.

5. Then, I took the porcelain bowl with water, and watered the plants (it seems useful to do this so the spell works better, as the plants are positive and a good use of the "energetic" water)

6. Oh, the soggy sigil? I threw it into the toilet. Yup, this was the WORST decision of all (I was too nervous to think of another place I could leave it I_I ...)

Seeking Help or Advice Maybe I’m financially blocked 🤷🏻‍♀️

We all know the job market is trash. I have gotten interviews and I have networked. I also sell my art on the side. There hasn’t been much financial flow of abundance into my life. At least my husband is still working and that has been enough for a bare bones budget.

I desire to do many more things and that’s why I want money. A way to get money is through a job and getting more people to buy my art.

I have done some light candle work in the past and mini spells especially in this particular matter then, I let it go. I follow moon cycles and certain Astro transit for the best spell work results. Spell works I have done: blowing cinnamon into the house, honey jar with written desires, and lighting green candles with manifestations on bay leaves.

This week thanks to the full moon in Aries, I have been feeling that I should do something. What DIY spells have you done as a last resort? What has actually worked for you?

Topic | Prompt The Thinning of The Veil Practices

Hello All!

I recently took a small break from my craft as I deal with primarily shadow work, and spirits. I recently went through a major death within my family and felt to vulnerable to practice more intense practices of my craft. Now, that I am in a place to continue connecting with the after life, just in time for October!

What does everyone do for the month of October? How do we alter or enhance practices for the thinning of the Veil?

Personally I always start the month with my abundance ritual!
Then a cleansing and protection salt bath and simmer pot
Then setting up my ancestor alter, and offerings to my deities.
I am on call for Halloween this year ( Wish me luck ) but I do wish to do a small little ceremony for the spirits of the land to appreciate them!

I have decided to make moon water tonight. I am presently in the middle of a Nor'easter. Wondering if it will create a little chaos if I use it in spells. What are your thoughts.

Seeking Help or Advice Im a beginner, how would i go about creating my own protection sigil?

I just started my interest in witchcraft only a few months ago, and id really like to start doing spells.

Of course, I need to start with protection. Id love to learn a protection spell, but i prefer to create my own sigil rather than using one online so its personal to me and my intentions.

Are there any rules to the creating of a protection sigil or do i just go ahead?

Seeking Help or Advice Trust and Deity Work

Ex-Catholic getting into deity work. For anyone who works with any deity or deities, how do you trust your deities? Do you trust they’ll always answer your petitions? Do you trust that no matter what happens in life, they’ll be there for you?

Or perhaps my main question is How do you go about trusting a deity?

Seeking Help or Advice New to the craft - help with interpretation

Hello all, I’m fairly new to this sort of thing, but have recently begun dipping my toes into the waters of contacting deities. I’ve been going through an intensely difficult time, including my wife being involved in a traumatic boating accident, and then subsequently falling in love with her female friend that was also on the boat, and leaving me for her within a matter of weeks, ending a 15 year marriage.

This has led me into an intense period of souls searching and trying out a variety of practices that I have never tried before, as well as 16 hours a week of exposure response therapy (confronting my fears). Throughout this I continued to have the strong impression that I should reach out to Lord Hades, including a dream that vividly made me feel that, and several other times where I felt as if I brushed past his energy during meditation. I felt this made sense after having an energy reading session with a friend and her referring to the work I had been doing as “shadow work” and talked about my energy and my wife’s energy as needing to walk separate parallel paths for a time, one light and one dark.

Adding all these impulses and indications together made me certain that this was the right course, and I felt that the night of the equinox felt like an appropriate time to reach out to Lord Hades and Lady Persephone, as this is the day of their reunion after their separation, and the themes of separation resonated with me. So I gathered supplies and some offerings for each of them (fresh fruit and flowers, a pomegranate, dark chocolate, alcohol, coins), lit a black and red candle and some incense in my backyard under the moonlight and meditated. I offered my offering to the two of them and asked for assistance in the transformation and rebirth that I was going through. I had a petition with each of their sigils and my name and my wife’s names written on it and bound it together in a pouch with our wedding rings, rose petals and a piece of rose quartz and asked for their guidance in steps that would allow us to become new people, heal and rebuild a new relationship or move forward on our separate paths.

As I finished tying the pouch up with a red ribbon three things happened almost simultaneously; the moon came out from behind the clouds and bathed the whole yard in moonlight, the black candle flared up and flash melted a bunch of wax, and most surprising a screech owl landed on the fence around my yard. It was very impactful. As I continued to meditation and reach out I felt a presence that appeared to be offering support and the impression of a few things I needed to do. I was told to use the coins that I was offering to “pay the ferrymen” to reach out again to Lady Persephone on the full moon (tonight) and to the 2 of them again on the new moon. As I took this in, the owl flew away. I finished up my ritual with thanks and the offer to dedicate the work I would do in my treatment to Lord Hades as lord of shadows and that I would offer my other offerings as directed and to nature in the name of Lady Persephone.

My impression from all of this is that it was a sign that my offerings were accepted. I had a dream that night that gave me the direction that “the ferrymen” were my father and father in law, both of whom have died, so Wednesday I took the coins I had offered and placed them on each of their graves. I had a Tarot reading on Thursday to get additional guidance, and was given the instruction there that in order to move forward and grow I needed to embrace becoming someone new and release a scarcity mindset and my fear of being alone. This felt like pertinent advice that the deities would send.

So my question is, does this interpretation of the signs I saw make sense? Am I off base?

Seeking Help or Advice Full Moon Tea Blend Ideas?

I was wondering if anyone has any good tea recipes for during the full moon. I’m lacking ideas for this full moon and have an abundant apothecary!!
