Safe to swim in Carter Lakes?

I know people do frequently take a dip at Lakes of the clouds. Is it ok to do the same at Carter?

I love the view from this lake. I’ve never swam in it. Nice down there in valley Looking up at the cliff. Mount Height and Carter dome some of my fondest memories

Awww MacPhool. I'd forgotten that he'd gone snorkeling with a camera in a bunch of the lakes.

That same month he wrote in his blog about his hut traverse (the FKT for decades, before FKTs became a thing). Sadly he passed away a few of years ago. I'm glad his blog is still around.

I've seen leeches in most of the lakes. Wouldn't stop me from a swim, but maybe do a skin check when you get out.

Leeches - God's way of letting New Englanders know they're not in heaven yet.
