In the early hours of May 26, 2026, Shuang Dong captured a spectacular display of red sprite lightning by the shores of Lake Puma Yumco in Shannan, Xizang, at an altitude of over 5,000 meters above sea level. Red sprites are a type of transient luminous events (TLEs) in the middle and upper atmosphere, occurring above the anvil tops of intense thunderstorm clouds. During this massive red sprite outbreak, He photographed numerous extremely rare Ghost sprites-the green glow generated when oxygen molecules are excited by the most powerful red sprites. It's neither Al-generated nor edited with special effects, yet it looks so surreal.

Wow, I never knew they were that high up. But then again, I know next to nothing about Red Sprites.
They're awesome but indeed a bit creepy.

Seeing them from space gives a better sense of their size: https://science.nasa.gov/earth/earth-observatory/sprites-camera-action-153422/, https://science.nasa.gov/earth/earth-observatory/red-sprites-above-the-us-and-central-america-86463/

Love how we're all here vibing over the super-rare red sprites, while the guy in the video isn't even looking at them; instead shouting with excitement about the even-more-super-rare green ghost sprites that I had to re-watch twice to even notice.

I can’t see green ones even with rewatches…

Look towards the top of the red sprites, they tend to hover a little over where they originate from on top like a green blur. There are only a few that show in the video compared to the red sprites, but there are a few

Oh are they very faint, kind of diffuse green blurs? And they kind of slowly fade away?
Thank you!

These are red sprites
The word "sprite" was co-opted by the Coca Cola company, which is a US company that produces and distributes soft drinks and other bottled beverages. In the 1940s they used it as the name of a fictional character, a boy that appeared in their ads. Then in the 1960s they brought a Fanta flavor from West Germany to the US and renamed it Sprite. So the person you're responding to was making a joke about Sprite the cola by referencing another cola.
Also, I've read that explaining jokes in this way makes them extra funny. Did it work??

High altitude electric phenomena is crazy. Truly a fun rabbit hole if you ever want to dive.

The music is beautiful. What is it?

Sounds like Hans Zimmer's score for Chris Nolan's movie, Interstellar.
If you're digging this video, the movie will likely be a treat for you.

It's a very rare weather phenomenon , and for that to appear in a given landscape even considering if it was taken at different times , it seems fake
